Here’s Why Open Borders Is a Racist Policy
Article by Jeff Charles in "RedState":
If I’ve learned anything over my career, it’s that the progressive crowd excels at accusing their political opponents of that which they are doing.
If you have been a conservative for any amount of time, you have likely been called a racist more times than you can count. It’s one of the hard left’s favorite tactics: Label your opponents as racist to discredit them. But imagine what would happen when people on the right point out the blatant racism inherent in leftist policies?
Earlier, I announced
that I would be writing a series of pieces giving effective arguments
to counter the progressive narrative. The objective is for the
conservative movement to be armed with better points of discussion than
“Dems did slavery and stuff.” Instead of focusing on what long-dead
Democrats did 150 years ago, we will get further when we focus on what
the Democrats are doing to the black community right now.
In this piece, I will give you an argument demonstrating the obvious racism inherent in one of the progressive left’s favorite policies: Open borders.
That’s right. Open borders policies are some of the most racist in existence. Progressive leftists are quite fond of accusing those who are concerned about illegal immigration of being racists.
But a closer look reveals that this is just a clever deflection tactic to distract from the racist outcomes of lax immigration policies. What they don’t want anyone to know is that such policies adversely affect the black community more than any other group in the U.S.
I recently wrote a piece for Liberty Nation discussing a recent event featuring experts on immigration policy. The event, which was held by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), examined the impact of both legal and illegal immigration on the country.
But in the case of the black community, they made some interesting observations. Labor lawyer Peter Kirsanow stated: “Forty percent of the decline in labor participation rates among black workers over three decades was attributable to competition from illegal immigration.”
The lawyer also pointed out that this percentage came to “nearly 1 million fewer jobs for black Americans as a result of the competition from illegal immigrants.”
But it gets worse.
Jason Richwine, a statistician, working with CIS discussed the findings of an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission study analyzing discrimination lawsuits. Several cases detailed in the report involved cases of discrimination that was enabled by illegal immigration. In one situation, a Memphis company hired a new employment agency to help them address its staffing needs. The report states that the agency “essentially replaced the African Americans with Hispanics.”
According to the report, the agency had prospective workers line up outside the warehouse. Then, they would select Hispanic workers even if blacks were ahead in line. The managers would also announce in English that the positions had been filled. After the black workers left, they would hire the Hispanic workers.
A report published by the U.S. Civil Rights Commission confirms that both legal and illegal immigration makes it harder for black Americans to obtain employment. “Illegal immigration to the United States in recent decades has tended to depress both wages and employment rates for low-skilled American citizens, a disproportionate number of whom are black men,” they wrote.
In a recent piece, even The Washington Post acknowledged that illegal immigration takes jobs away from black Americans. The raids on various plants in Mississippi revealed that most of the companies knowingly hiring illegal immigrants were located in areas with a high black population. In fact, after the illegal workers were detained, black Americans were able to fill those positions.
So what are the Democrats doing to address this problem? Well, it appears they plan to solve the issue by trying to make it easier for foreigners to enter the country illegally. They are pushing for expanded welfare benefits for illegal aliens. This is how much the left values the black community. Yes, the black unemployment rate is declining, but without the prevalence of illegal immigration, it would be sinking more rapidly.
There you have it.
Lax immigration policies hurt all types of Americans, but it is abundantly obvious that it disproportionately harms the black community. What makes this worse is that progressive leaders are well aware of this reality, but they have no intention of doing anything about it. In fact, I’ve found that when I bring this up to a leftist supporting open borders, they do not have much of an answer. There’s a reason for that: There is absolutely no way to justify this, especially when they claim to care about racism.
Keep in mind, I’m not saying that anyone who supports open borders is a racist. But I am arguing that lax immigration policies have inevitably racist outcomes. This is probably why it’s typically the limousine liberal crowd that vociferously supports these programs; why should they care when they’re only going to take jobs from low-skilled black folks? If only the Republican Party would make this argument to the black community in person…
