Funeral of Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican

Thousands of mourners have gathered to pay their respects at the funeral mass of former Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Francis will preside over the mass, making it the first time a sitting Pope has led his predecessor's funeral in over 220 years, according to the Vatican. The former pope died on New Year's Eve at the age of 95, almost a decade after standing down because of ill-health. The funeral is being held in St Peter's Square, in front of St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
