FBI Celebrates New Year by Declaring They Will Chase January 6 Demonstrators for 'Years to Come'

streiff reporting for RedState

The Washington Field Office of the FBI celebrated the New Year by issuing a self-congratulatory press release announcing that the effort to identify people in the Capitol on January 6, 2021, will continue full speed ahead.

This week marks two years since the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in an unsuccessful attempt to block the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. The FBI, working in partnership with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and law enforcement partners across the nation, remains committed to identifying, investigating, and prosecuting those responsible for the attack.

With the assistance of hundreds of thousands of tips from the American people, the FBI has identified and arrested more than 950 individuals who took part in the Capitol riots. Of those, nearly 200 were arrested for assaulting law enforcement officers.

“As we approach two years since the attack on the Capitol, the FBI and our partners’ investigative work continues to unfold across the country, resulting in significant judicial outcomes,” said David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office. “Some of the most egregious offenders, including those who attacked law enforcement officers, have received lengthy sentences, and the FBI continues to receive tips from the public, which help us bring remaining offenders to justice. In the months and years to come, the FBI Washington Field Office will continue to partner with U.S. attorney’s offices across the country to bring to justice those who attempted to use violence to substitute their will over the will of the people.”

Investigating the violent assaults on law enforcement officers, obstruction of justice, seditious conspiracy, and multiple other federal crimes committed during the January 6 attack on the Capitol has been and remains a priority for the FBI. Bringing the perpetrators of these attacks to justice has required tireless efforts by FBI agents, analysts, and other professional staff, and the review of almost four million files, including over 30,000 files of video footage consisting of body-worn and hand-held camera footage from five law enforcement agencies, surveillance camera footage from three law enforcement agencies, and search warrant returns for digital devices. For context, these files amount to over nine terabytes of information and would take at least 361 days to view continuously.

“Months and years to come”? Are you shitting me?

The FBI and Department of Justice can smear all the lipstick they want on this particular pig, and nothing is going to change what it is. It is political persecution. There is no set of facts where the demonstration at the US Capitol had the potential to prevent certification of the Electoral College’s selection of Joe Biden as president. In fact, there is really no evidence that more than a handful of protesters had that as their objective. The whole purpose of this prolonged investigation was to support the effort of the January 6 Committee to persecute the Trump family and to harass, bully, and intimidate anyone who supported Trump’s allegations of widespread election fraud.

The only fatalities on January 6 were one protester, Ashli Babbitt, executed in cold blood by a Capitol Hill police officer, and another, Roseanne Boyland, who Capitol Police clubbed as she lay helpless, and two who died of medical causes (one stroke and one apparent heart attack).

Not only is the effort expended in this grossly disproportionate to any potential “crime” committed. Suppose we accept at face value that there is something particularly egregious about a cop getting assaulted during the course of a demonstration. In that case, simple justice demands equality and proportionality of treatment. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. A whole summer of riots, notably violent riots in Portland that frequently resulted in police officers being assaulted by a vicious, armed mob, typically resulted in sentences of probation.

And don’t pretend that this investigation is anything more than a smokescreen to arrest and charge citizens for bullsh** “crimes” and use the process as the punishment.

Since 2016, the FBI has acted as the enforcement arm of the Democrat party. It was the FBI who injected the manufactured Steele Dossier into Congress and the media. It was James Comey who worked with CNN to create a news “hook” that allowed CNN to report on the Steele Dossier. It was an FBI lawyer who forged an email from the CIA misstating Carter Page’s relationship with that agency, so that a FISA warrant could be obtained. As we’ve seen from the Twitter Files, the FBI actively collaborated with Twitter and other social media outlets to shape what could and could not be said about topics like the Hunter Biden laptop during the 2020 election; see Matt Taibbi Puts Ted Lieu on the Hot Seat Again About FBI Going After Domestic Speech on Twitter and FBI Responds to the Twitter Files Revelations With All the Truth and Integrity That We’ve Come to Expect From It.

This investigation is just another instance of the FBI and its masters in the Department of Justice using federal law enforcement and the penal code to crush people and information for political reasons.
