John Kelly promised Trump he wouldn't write a tell-all book while he's in office: report

 Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly reportedly told President Trump that he would not write a tell-all book while Trump is in office. CNN, citing two sources briefed on the discussion, reported Wednesday that Trump asked Kelly before he exited the White House about whether he planned to write such a book.

 Kelly told the president that while he eventually intended to write about his time in the White House for history, he would wait until Trump had left the Oval Office, according to CNN.

 The network also reported that the promise was based on the condition that Trump didn't go after Kelly first. A source close to Kelly told the CNN that the conversation was amicable and not contentious.

 The Hill has reached out to The White House for comment. Kelly's White House exit last December followed strains on his relationship with Trump, including multiple reports that the chief of staff had insulted the president behind his back.

 Kelly also reportedly clashed with other advisers and Trump family members.

 Former White House and Trump campaign aide Omarosa Manigault Newman has written a tell-all called "Unhinged," which portrayed the president as racist and incompetent. Last year, Trump's campaign filed for arbitration against her, alleging she violated a nondisclosure agreement.
