Writer Very Upset Gun Owners Aren't Shooting Cops Over Leftist Talking Points
The right to keep and bear arms is a bulwark against the United States government becoming tyrannical. This is something I point out all the time, either here or at our sister site, Bearing Arms. I say it because it's true.
But right now, some on the Left are upset because we don't find the same things tyrannical.
See, the problem is that President Donald Trump is doing one of the things he said he'd do – enforcing our nation's immigration laws by mass deporting illegal immigrants.
And for one writer of a Milwaukee-based website, that's beyond awful, and everything we've said about why we support the Second Amendment is a dreadful, terrible lie:
For decades, conservatives in America have shouted that the Second Amendment exists to protect citizens from government tyranny.
They have armed themselves to the teeth, wrapping violence in the U.S. flag and sanctifying the rifle as a symbol of “freedom.” They said guns were the only thing standing between liberty and dictatorship. That armed patriots would rise up if the government ever turned on its own people.
Now the government under Donald Trump has done exactly that, and these so-called defenders of liberty are nowhere to be found.
What we are witnessing today is not theoretical tyranny. It is real. The federal government, under the Trump regime, has used militarized federal forces and ICE agents like a personal Gestapo. Peaceful demonstrators have been assaulted, journalists detained, and ordinary citizens abducted from streets into unmarked vehicles.
The kick in the butt here is that this is under the "explainer" category. It's not a column or something that's clearly listed as opinion, but is supposedly something to explain a matter of news or a political question.
And it's filled with absolute insanity.
Of course, ICE isn't just going out and arresting just anyone. They're busting illegal immigrants, many of whom were criminals in their home countries before illegally entering our nation. They came in by the millions under Joe Biden, and now they're being evicted in similar numbers wherever they're found.
And we're supposed to be up in arms, literally, over that?
But let's see what this individual really thinks for a second:
Trump’s allies have celebrated this as “law and order,” while local mayors and governors begged federal agents to leave their cities alone. Instead of resisting authoritarian overreach, Second Amendment conservatives are cheering it on.
This isn’t about policy disagreements or partisan divides. It’s about the raw hypocrisy of a movement that built its identity on the claim that guns were a sacred safeguard against tyranny, yet stands silent as the state’s guns are turned on its own people.
These men and women who once fantasized about “watering the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants” are now content to let that tree wither under the weight of fascism, because the tyrant happens to be one of their own.
When unarmed citizens are gassed and beaten for protesting government abuse, when federal agents break into homes without warrants, when the military is deployed against American cities, that is tyranny in its purest form.
But rather than invoking their vaunted Second Amendment rights, these self-proclaimed patriots are posting memes, waving flags, and boasting about “backing the blue.” Their rebellion was never about defending freedom — it was about defending privilege. Their idea of liberty extends only to people who look like them, vote like them, and pray like them.
For years, the American right warned that Democrats were coming for their guns, that the deep state would enslave them, that federal agents would storm their homes. Now that those same federal agents are brutalizing citizens in plain sight, they stand shoulder to shoulder with the oppressors. The fantasy of armed resistance evaporated the moment resistance required courage.
In other words, we're all lying because we don't define enforcing immigration law as tyranny.
This isn't an unusual argument, either. They think that because Second Amendment advocates say they oppose tyranny and are ready to take up arms against an authoritarian government, we must follow their own definition of authoritarianism.
That's not how it works.
I'm willing to die to defend this nation and the Constitution if I have to, but I'm not about to do it because the president is actually doing his job and making headway in an issue that the other side caused. I'm not going to get up in arms over the fact that criminals are being sent back to their home countries and that ICE is actually doing what it was intended to do.
Those "protesters" who have been arrested weren't just protesting. They assaulted federal officers and got jacked up because of it. They obstructed justice and got thrown to the ground for their troubles. These aren't innocent protesters minding their own business, only to be rounded up like criminals. They were criminals whom the Left keeps pretending are just protesters.
Second Amendment advocates aren't going to put their lives on the line for people like that.
Of course, these are the same people who were upset that the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, failed and are thrilled that the attempt on Charlie Kirk's life was successful, so I can't say that I'm surprised they think a violent response is warranted here.
And there may come a time when your average gun owner will find their line has been crossed, but it won't be because the very people who want to take away our rights suddenly think we should, especially not when it's exclusively for the benefit of people who want us dead in the first place.
