Border Patrol Chief Puts Karen Bass in Her Place After Insane Public Blow-Out

Bonchie reporting for RedState

A massive immigration raid took place in Los Angeles on Monday, with dozens of federal agents seen moving across MacArthur Park. The area is infamous for being a hotbed of MS-13 activity, and members of the gang were likely the primary target of the enforcement action. The operation appears to have been conducted in conjunction with ICE, Border Patrol, and members of the U.S. military.

As RedState reported, a hysterical Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass showed up at the park in person to demand to speak to the manager while shouting, "They need to leave, and they need to leave right now!"

Feds Respond Accordingly After Karen Bass Demands Immigration Sweeps Cease

The federal authorities did not, in fact, leave right then. Instead, the raid continued into the afternoon, as it should have given the area in question. Why exactly is Bass showing up to demand an end to a raid that was targeting illegal aliens who deal in drug and human trafficking, never mind other violent crimes? Does she have a special affinity for MS-13 members?

Regardless, the person Bass spoke to on the phone was apparently Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino, and he was having none of her nonsense. When reporter Bill Melugin asked what he had to say to her, here's how he responded.

BOVINO: I don’t work for Karen Bass. Better get used to us now, cause this is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles.

This is the kind of backlash that was so easy to see coming, yet Democrats just can't help themselves. Originally, ICE was focusing its efforts on coordinating with local law enforcement to see immigration retainers honored. Sanctuary cities like Los Angeles refuse to cooperate, though. That means federal authorities now have to go into communities and conduct on-site raids, and the moment politicians like Bass started crying foul, it was a foregone conclusion that Border Czar Tom Homan and company would only turn up the heat further.

If Democrats just stopped trying to obstruct the enforcement of immigration law, fewer of these large raids would be necessary. In other words, Bass and other left-wing officials are creating the very environment they decry. Even still, it's astonishing to see them go to bat for violent criminals. Does Bass want more rapes and murders in Los Angeles? If she doesn't, she should be helping federal immigration authorities, not grandstanding for the cameras and screaming at them for doing their jobs. They are making the city and the country safer, whether Bass likes it or not.
