CNN Takes Heat for Referring to Christians As 'Easter Worshippers'

CNN is taking a hit at Christians ahead of their most sacred holiday, referring to them as “Easter worshippers.” 

The mainstream media outlet was referencing a tragic accident in South Africa where 45 people in a bus plunged off a cliff and were killed in the nation’s Limpopo province. 

The article’s headline was titled “Easter worshippers” rather than Christians. 

CNN was not the only liberal media outlet to do so, MSNBC, People Magazine, and NBC News also used the bizarre word choice.

In 2019, former President Barack Obama used the term “Easter worshippers” in response to the deadly Islamic extremist attack in which dozens of Christians were killed during Easter celebrations in Sri Lanka.

“The attacks on tourists and Easter worshippers in Sri Lanka are an attack on humanity. On a day devoted to love, redemption, and renewal, we pray for the victims and stand with the people of Sri Lanka,” Obama said at the time. 

Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton also refused to address the day as a Christian-brd holiday, in which people are celebrating Jesus and not the Easter bunny. 

Previously, former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich responded to the Democrat’s choice of words, calling it “strange.” 

“How do President Obama and Secretary Clinton both come up with Easter worshippers in their tweets about the murders in Sri Lanka?” Gingrich said. “Is Easter Worshipper the left’s new way to avoid the word Christian? Pathetic.”

This is not the first time mainstream media outlets have attacked Christianity. 

The New York Times, MSNBC, and Politico were just a few liberal outlets that have spoken negatively about House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) faith. 

Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki labels Johnson as a Christian “fundamentalist,” claiming that he is threatening democracy over his devout Christian beliefs. 

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said that he is traumatized by Johnson due to his views about the LGBTQ+ community after the Speaker declared himself a "Bible-believing Christian.”
