My Fair Lady in Reverse

Kamala Harris is Eliza Doolittle, only in reverse.

According to Politico, during a private Zoom meeting with a bunch of black women this week, Kamala asked them to help transform her from an elitist, power-hungry Beltway climber into someone who could relate to regular Americans. Which, when you think about it, is like the plot from My Fair Lady, only in reverse.

Joking about smoking weed and listening to Tupac didn’t help her connect to the black community in the lead-up to the Democrat primaries. So Kamala is asking Beltway activists to take this privileged Indian/Jamaican raised in Montreal and help transform her into a character from “What’s Happening.”

I confess, when I read this article, I laughed so hard, I couldn’t believe whoever leaked this meeting to Politico thought she was helping Kamala.

This reverse My Fair Lady makes Kamala Harris look more out of touch and pandering than we already thought she was. It also makes her look like a desperate high school girl.

Take this pull-quote:

Harris urged those in attendance to give it to her straight, attendees said: What are people saying? she asked.

“So, what are people saying about me, guys?” Asked the totally not insecure political incompetent.

Now, keep in mind the Henry Higginses meeting with Kamala Harris aren’t average black women living in Detroit, or Birmingham, or Atlanta. They’re presidents and CEOs from Beltway strategic consultancy groups and activist organizations.

One woman, Shavon Arline-Bradley, the president and chair of D4 In Action put it this way:

“She was asking for clarity on how to best touch the everyday American rank and file who may or may not be living Beltway life like we do,” said Arline-Bradley, “She said ‘I want the message to resonate with the Beltway and beyond, outside of Washington, D.C. How do I get that message out?’”

I’m spotting a major flaw in this strategy, aren’t you?

To learn how to relate to people outside of her bubble, Kamala went to women inside her bubble for help.

This would be like Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady asking the girl selling matches in London’s East End to help transform her into a high society debutante.

There’s the blind leading the blind, then there’s the out-of-touch leading the out-of-touch.

Kamala wants women just as removed from regular Americans as she is to help her connect to regular Americans. That’s how bad she is at this.

Kamala Harris is no more connected to ordinary black Americans than Elizabeth Warren is. This is why both of them are dumb enough to think black activists are representative of the black community as a whole.

One of the strategists who attended this Zoom meeting told Politico:

“There are communities of stakeholders and validators that would like to lift the vice president and amplify what she is doing,” said Rachel Noerdlinger, a communications strategist who attended the meeting.

I mean, come on! Do you think a single person in a predominately black community routinely uses phrases like “stakeholders and validators?”

If Kamala really wants to pull off a reverse My Fair Lady, these are not the women to help transform her. And even if she did find actual everyday Americans to help, Kamala Harris is so disconnected from them, it would be like watching a buzzard pretend to be a swan.
