The last four years have been an extraordinary time for America, as challenges near and far have helped shaped the presidency of Donald J. Trump.
President Trump’s legacy will be remembered for standing up and fighting for the common man. Realigning trade deals, strengthening our economy, bringing the Middle East closer to peace, rebuilding our military and providing principled leadership during a global pandemic resulting in vaccines being distributed across the world at this very minute.
For LGBTQ Republicans and our allies, Trump’s presidency presented a unique opportunity to throw out the old playbook and embrace an “Inclusion Wins” position. The President’s example of promoting diversity and inclusion of our community was reflected in not only the government but the political system as well.
We were thrilled when President Trump announced his initiative to end the spread of HIV/AIDS in 10 years, putting the biggest focus on defeating this virus in history. We were grateful when President Trump called on the global community at the United Nations to end the criminalization of homosexuality. We were proud when one of our own, Richard Grenell, was nominated by President Trump to be the first LGBTQ Cabinet member in history. And the countless LGBTQ Americans who were appointed to work in the Administration did a yeoman’s job of keeping our community’s interests front and center.
Following the President’s example, the GOP directly engaged with the LGBTQ community and Log Cabin Republicans, working together across the nation. The Trump campaign created and launched the historic TRUMP Pride Coalition – the first time a GOP presidential campaign has ever had an official LGBTQ coalition. Log Cabin Republicans fielded its largest election engagement initiative, and launching the wildly successful ‘Get Outspoken’ digital campaign. The result was a doubling of the LGBTQ vote for President Trump in 2020 from 2016. New LCR chapters are forming, our membership is growing and we have helped engage a new generation of gay conservative activists in our shared cause.
Thank you, President Trump, for being our partner in this monumental time in our nation’s history. Congratulations to President Biden and Vice-President Harris on your election and being sworn into office today. We’ll be watching, and we’re not going anywhere.
Today, our nation celebrates the miracle of our unique American democracy. Tomorrow, we get back to work with just 657 days until the midterm elections in 2022. We’ll be ready.
Regards,
Charles T. Moran
