discuss children’s welfare

First Lady Tammy Murphy and First Lady Melania Trump on Wednesday discussed initiatives aimed at boosting child welfare and well-being.

Murphy and New Jersey Department of Human Services Commissioner Carole Johnson, who was also on the call, told Trump about strategies the state had adopted to move social services in the midst of a pandemic, including the expansion of the state’s mental health hotline.

They also discussed Nurture NJ, an initiative meant to lower infant and maternal mortality New Jersey’s first lady launched last year.

The two agreed on the need to lower disparities in care that have led to higher death rates among black mothers in New Jersey. They also discussed how technology could increase residents’ access to mental health services.
