The Obama Dazzle eludes him

Poor Joe. He’s discovering the hard way that the old Obama Dazzle in which he basked for eight years is no longer his to enjoy.

Yesterday in Iowa, Joe Biden once again tried to glom on to that Obama Dazzle he once enjoyed as Barack’s vice president.

And how is he doing it now?

Why by not only reiterating his desire to nominate Barack to the Supreme Court, but also by floating Michelle as a possible running mate.

Good grief.

Give it up Joe.  They’re not going to endorse you unless by some miracle you’re the last Democrat standing.

Biden was a beneficiary of the Obama Dazzle for eight years – but only by proximity.  And I think Joe has been operating under the mistaken impression that he was a source of some of that dazzle.

Yeah.  He wasn’t.

And now we’re watching in real time as Joe slowly figures that out.

I think Joe really did expect that the same slobbering devotion and unquestioning loyalty both the voters and the press showed the Obamas were going to be his simply because he was Barack’s vice president.

And it just isn’t happening for the guy.

Now, for anyone out here in the real world, this doesn’t come as a shock.

The Obamas have always horded their celebrity.  The Obama Dazzle was for them and them alone.  No sharesies.

Joe’s discovering that reality certainly explains why he keeps getting so frustrated and angry with reporters and voters alike.

Ornery … and desperate.

Can’t you just picture Joe at the end of a campaign event, climbing onto his bus and immediately unleashing a tirade at his staff?  “I don’t get it!  Why aren’t I getting the same kinda treatment my good friend Barack got?! Where’s my portion of that old Obama Dazzle?!”

For Barack and Michelle, Joe Robinette Biden was nothing more than a hanger-on – a groupie.  Only Joe didn’t realize that … until now.

And rather than simply accept the fact that the Obama Dazzle isn’t his, poor Joe just keeps on plugging way – sycophantically name-dropping and sucking up in hopes that the old Obama Dazzle shines on him once more.

At this point, I’m actually starting to feel sorry for the guy.  Twelve years after hitching his wagon to Obama, Joe is learning the hard way that, for Barack and Michelle, devotion and loyalty is a one-way street.  And that’s something we who weren’t hypnotized by the Obama Dazzle knew more than a decade ago.

Welcome to the party, pal.
