Boom: Senators Revolt Against Thune's Plan to Recess

It's incredible that we don't have the SAVE America Act across the line yet, given how much Americans all over the political spectrum want voter ID. 

Now, on top of that, the Senate is scheduled to go into August recess, which will delay the question yet again. As our sister site Townhall reported, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said he was not ruling out a delay of the recess, but only if the vote would be different. 

“If somebody can show me how we get an outcome, how we get a result, how we get an answer to this, I’m all for it,” he said. “But if we are going to be sitting here in endless quorum calls, I don’t know if that’s in everybody’s best interest.” 

But some Republican senators are standing up for the cause and revolting against going to recess until they get it done. At least seven GOP senators have publicly vowed to object to the recess adjournment until the bill advances.

Leading the charge was Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). 

@LeaderJohnThune, I hereby object to any effort to put the Senate into recess in August—at least until such time as the Senate has passed the SAVE America Act—and hereby request a roll call vote. Do not assume you have my consent. You do not.” 

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) was also on board: "The American people expect us to deliver. They deserve secure elections.” 

So was Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL). 

As we reported, President Donald Trump has already told Thune that he needs to get it done. 

“John Thune should not allow the United States Senate to ‘leave town’ until it passes The Save America Act or, far better still, TERMINATES THE FILIBUSTER, where Republicans can then quickly pass everything they ever dreamed of,” the president wrote in his Monday post.

They have until Aug.7, as the Senate recess is currently scheduled.
