Bad News for the 'Disgruntled' Left - Felony Indictment Dropped in D.C. for Damage to Reflecting Pool
Things are moving over the recent damage people have been doing to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which President Trump has been renovating in 2026 as part of the beautification and public safety projects he's instituted through executive orders since he returned to the White House.
On Thursday, one of the people arrested for allegedly vandalizing the new sealant in the pool was indicted and as RedState previously wrote, at first glance the Maryland man seemed like an unlikely suspect.
WJLA-TV reporter Scott Taylor shared the indictment on X:
FORMER U.S. OLYMPIAN INDICTED IN LINCOLN MEMORIAL REFLECTING POOL CASE
Former three-time U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn, 67, of Bethesda, MD has been indicted on a felony destruction of property charge after prosecutors say he vandalized the recently restored Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on June 19.
According to the indictment, Hearn allegedly ripped up a section of the pool's newly installed blue sealant just months after the National Mall underwent extensive renovations ahead of America's 250th anniversary.
Hearn has denied intentionally damaging the Reflecting Pool, saying he only touched a piece of sealant that was already loose.
"I did not remove, I did not damage, I did not rip, tear, break, destroy or harm any part of the Reflecting Pool," Hearn previously said.
His attorneys continue to maintain his innocence and say they intend to fight the charge.
Hearn is scheduled to appear in D.C. Superior Court on July 9.
RedState's Jennifer Oliver O'Connell wrote on June 20 about some of the shenanigans near the pool, including one arrest (although, it is not clear whether thie posted image shows Hearn or some other suspected vandal).
Reading from the indictment during a press event on Thursday, U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro told media: "By Hearn's own admission, on June 19 he reached down into the pool":
She continued: "Our evidence further shows that the National Park Service employees observed Hearn actually forcefully amd violently pulling up and removing the bottom liner with both hands. According to witnesses, Hearn damaged approximately two square feet of sealant" from it. Pirro added that an employee of the National Park Service ordered Hearn to stop "his behavior and stop what he was doing."
What was the man's reaction? Per the allegations in the indictment document, he shouted at the Parks employee that she cared too much about the D.C. Reflecting Pool. He asked her why she cared at all, since it was not her pool.
Earlier on Thursday, WarSec Pete Hegseth addressed some of these federal workers who have been dedicated to bringing the D.C. area back to its intended beauty, and others who are securing its safety and law and order, at the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force ceremony. It was - fittingly - held at one of Washington's parks.
Pirro had a stark message for the Left on Thursday. She said that "whether they think it's justified or whether they think it's not important," damaging America's symbols like the Reflecting Pool is a crime, and perpetrators will be held to account under the Trump 47 administration.
Watch:
U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro on securing an indictment in the Reflecting Pool vandalism: “Today is about accountability for damaging a national resource, a national treasure, and that is the Reflecting Pool that runs from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial, which is, of course, a symbol of D.C.'s beauty and history. Now, it was recently renovated with significant funds and investments. Any tampering undermines that., ad make no mistake, if anyone decides they want to damage that, whatever they think their reason is, or whether they think it's justified or whether they think it's not important, will be held to account. This is a priority not only for the President, but for myself as well.”
Pirro spoke for many Americans in her further comments at the press conference, when she recalled how radical leftists tore down and defaced historic statues during the Biden tenure in the WH, and how much it angered her. But she struck a hopeful tone ahead of America's 250th birthday, saying that we have "weathered moments of anarchy and chaos in the past," and overcome them together.
