The Bomb Brothers: 3 Siblings of 'Iraqi Origin' Arrested in Attack on U.S. Embassy in Oslo

RedState

An explosion ripped through the U.S. embassy in Oslo, Norway, in the early morning hours of Sunday, and while the attack damaged the building, luckily, no one was hurt.

Now, three Norwegian citizens of Iraqi origin have been arrested on suspicion of conducting a “terrorist bombing” of the building. They were nabbed at 3 p.m. Wednesday, police prosecutor Christian Hatlo said in a news conference. He added that authorities are still investigating what role they played and what may have motivated the attack:

The men are in their 20s and were not previously known to police, Hatlo said. Investigators are still working to determine a motive, Hatlo said.

“We are still working from several hypotheses. One of them is whether this is an order from a government entity,” Hatlo said. “This is quite natural given the target — the U.S. embassy — and the security situation the world is in today,” he said…

Hatlo said that police believe one man placed the bomb outside the embassy and the other two were “complicit in the act.” Hatlo said police are not ruling out links to “criminal networks.”

Although no motive has been established, there are signs that the ongoing Iran-U.S./Israel conflict could have been (was very likely) a driving factor.

Police said on Monday that an improvised explosive device was left at one of the entrances of the embassy early on Sunday, ruling out that a hand grenade was used. The blast caused minor damage but there were no casualties.

A video depicting Iran’s late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was posted on the Google Maps website at about the same time as the blast outside the diplomatic mission, the police said earlier, adding that it was probing a link between the incidents.

Authorities are also looking into the possibility that a state actor was involved.

Oslo police had previously issued a surveillance photo of one of the potential suspects:

The incident is one of a growing number of attacks and attempted actions as jihadists, inflamed by the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei courtesy of an Israeli missile, lash out the only way they know how: with indiscriminate violence.

Unfortunately, there will almost certainly be more attacks, and there are fears that the beleaguered Iranian regime has made moves to awaken sleeper cells inside the U.S.

Luckily, the Oslo explosion didn’t kill innocent people — but these three brothers may end up paying a steep price anyway if they are found to be behind the plot.
