Democrats Undermine the American Experiment
We occasionally encounter the notion that America is an experiment, carried out under controlled conditions, in democratic governance. The control for experiments in our democracy is the Constitution and subordinate laws. George Washington advised in his Farewell Address “the Constitution… is sacredly obligatory upon all. The right of the people to establish government presupposes the duty of every individual to obey the established government.”
When Joe Biden took office he refused to enforce U.S. immigration law, allowing millions to enter the country illegally. His open border experiment had no control. At a press conference, Biden told reporters, “I’ve done all I can do. Just give me the power. Give me the people, Border Patrol and Judges who can stop this and make it work right.” The key phrase in Biden’s request for “power” is his demand that Congress pass a law to “make it work right” meaning the law must “work right” in the uncontrolled immigration scheme of the Democrat Party.
In 2021 Democrats introduced the U.S. Citizenship Act which “establishes a path to citizenship.” Democrats didn’t want an immigration law. They wanted citizenship for the tens of millions of aliens in the country illegally and the millions who would follow. Counting illegal aliens in the census allots Congressional seats and electoral votes to the blue states that attract them. They are determined to secure the votes from these newly-minted citizens.
Democrats are now doing everything conceivable to keep illegal aliens in the country. Blue state mayors and governors across the country ignore immigration law. This ignorance is on display in sanctuary cities and states. Minneapolis is ground zero for sanctuary policy. Like many liberal enclaves, Minneapolis has developed a grievance industry which aggressively harasses, harangues, assaults, and obstructs villains defined by Democrat politiciansand the liberal activists who pull their strings.
Minnesota governor Tim Walz told a commencement audience last Spring that, ”Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the street.” Self-proclaimed Nazi expert and governor of Illinois JB Pritzker contends, “It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic. When the five-alarm fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.” Democrat politicians started a fire and are mobilizing the grievance industry to throw gasoline on it.
Senator Chris Murphy appearing on Fox News Sunday said, “What is happening in Minnesota right now is a dystopia. ICE is tear gassing elementary schools.” Murphy gives the impression that ICE is opening school doors and throwing tear gas canisters into hallways all over the state but there is very little reporting of ICE tear gassing schools.
KARE 11 covered a riot near Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. DHS told the television station a U.S. citizen was “actively trying to impede operations.” Protestors rammed an ICE vehicle resulting in a car chase. The driver eventually stopped near the school where a riot ensued. DHS said a teacher at the school “proceeded to assault a border patrol agent.” Rioters threw objects and sprayed paint on ICE vehicles. DHS said no tear-gas was used, but witnesses told KARE 11 said otherwise. Was tear gas actually used? Your guess is as good as Chris Murphy’s. The senator is more interested in inciting unrest than the security of his constituents.
Murphy: “ICE is disappearing legal residents into cars.”
Can ICE agents really throw people in their car and make them disappear without a trace? If so, what are the magic words? We hear of ICE disappearing residents from Democrat politicians and their friends in the media but these claims have no supporting evidence. There is none. It’s vanished. Poof!
Murphy: “No more of these roving patrols through the cities in which they're demanding that American citizens show their papers. That's what happened in Stalin's Russia.”
When the police confront someone, they usually ask for proof of identity. The normal response is to pull out your driver’s license and show it to them. If you’re in a car, they will likely ask for your vehicle registration and proof of insurance. An ICE agent may ask for identification if he believes you, me, or Senator Murphy is an illegal alien. If identification is unavailable, the ICE agent may detain you. If an alien suggests he is seeking asylum, the ICE agent may ask to see documents to prove asylee status. We show ID to buy beer, vote, get on airplanes, enter foreign countries, etc. Senator Murphy would have us believe that a routine interaction between the police and the public is a descent into Stalinism.
Murphy: “I was in Texas two weeks ago, and… they're locking up hundreds and hundreds of children.”
Children were brought into the country illegally by their parents. ICE policy is to keep families together which means they are detained and repatriated together. Seeing families dragged through any legal process is sad but people that violate criminal statutes aren’t pardoned by Senator Murphy because they have children.
Murphy: “I sat inside an immigration court and watched legal residents coming in, applying for asylum, playing by the rules, and then getting disappeared out of the courtroom by ICE with absolutely no explanation… Tens of thousands of legal immigrants who are doing it the right way -- who are applying for asylum -- who are being disappeared into horrific prisons all across the country.”
Participants in an immigration hearing are conducting government business. They have no obligation to explain the proceedings to Senator Murphy. Had immigration court authorities known the senator perceived the proceedings as acts of sorcery, believing ICE could disappear legal residents, they may have made counseling available to the senator or provided him Xanax to soothe his fragile nerves.
The outlandish, out-of-context misinformation provided by Democrat politicians are talking points intended to incite liberal activists to obstruct ICE operations, fuel the chaos they blame on Trump, and obstruct the legal removal of illegal aliens. It’s painful to watch federal agents kill Americans. It’s also painful to watch Americans assault federal agents who are enforcing the law. President Trump has placed Tom Homan in charge of ICE operations in Minnesota. Since he took charge, ICE has toned down their tactics while the protests and Democrat rhetoric continues unabated.
Washington foresaw the Democrats schemes: “obstructions to the execution of the laws… serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation the will of a party.” Democrats opened the border to tens of millions of aliens they now shelter in sanctuaries they designed. President Trump promised to close the border and deport illegal aliens. In response, Democrats engage in hysterical vaporous rhetoric, inciting radical factions to build walls of obstruction around the sanctuaries they constructed. It’s imperative that the people support the President as he faithfully enforces the laws of the United States.
