Walz, Frey Now Being Investigated by DOJ Over Anti-ICE Actions - MN Gov Is Not Happy

RedState

UPDATED [7:40 PM ET]: Fox News' Bill Melugin is reporting that DOJ sources have confirmed the report:

original story

I reported about the big warning that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had given Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a couple of days ago, that they were treading on thin ice with how they had been inciting anti-ICE action.

ICE operates in thousands of counties without incident. Men and women doing their jobs, protecting us from criminal aliens.

Minnesota insurrection is a direct result of a FAILED governor and a TERRIBLE mayor encouraging violence against law enforcement. It’s disgusting.

Walz and Frey - I’m focused on stopping YOU from your terrorism by whatever means necessary. This is not a threat. It’s a promise.

It appears he wasn't kidding, according to a new report from CBS News.

The Justice Department is investigating Minnesota officials, including Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, over an alleged conspiracy to impede federal immigration agents, an extraordinary escalation in the Trump administration's clash with Democratic leaders there, multiple sources familiar with the matter told CBS News.

One of the sources, a U.S. official, said the investigation stems from statements that Walz and Frey have made about the thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents deployed to the Minneapolis region in recent weeks.

The Trump administration hasn't confirmed this yet. They likely wouldn't until they are ready to act.

Count on this to drive the left into a frenzy. But I suspect that warning is the only reason we got any kind of remarks from Walz or Frey, sounding like they were trying to temper their tone a little, after they had been whipping things up for days, with Walz even saying they were at "war" with the federal government.

Walz, being Walz, naturally shot his mouth off over the reporting.

Um, Tim? You're the one encouraging folks out into the street against ICE. They're just trying to enforce the law. Those actions are on you. You want to deflect from that by pointing to the ICE shooting, but the facts presently adduced indicate that it was justified. You, on the other hand, were trying to stop the enforcement of federal law.
