Woke Democrat Congresswoman Plays the Victim After Interfering in ICE Sweep, but There's a Problem
I'm starting to think that at some point in the near future, the Academy Awards should add a category that goes something along the lines of "most dramatic acting performance by a member of Congress," because the drama queening on Capitol Hill gets worse every day, and there appears to be no end in sight.
Some of the more obvious examples include Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters (CA-43) and her "storm the Education Department" stunt back during the early days of DOGE. There were also the members of the MS-13 Caucus who made a big show of traveling to El Salvador in April to plead for the release of alleged MS-13 gang member and accused domestic abuser Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
More recently, there was Rep. Nanette Barragán (CA-44), who, during the Schumer Shutdown, accused a Capitol police officer who was working without pay of "forcibly grabbing" her as she tried to invade the office of GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04), even though video showed the officer did no such thing.
In the latest example, we have newly sworn-in Democrat Rep. Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07), who posted a video to X on Friday alleging without evidence that she was "pushed aside and pepper-sprayed" by immigration enforcement agents after she admittedly tried to interfere in an active operation in Tucson, Arizona:
According to Grijalva, community members in Tucson had stopped approximately 40 ICE officers, most of whom were masked, in the middle of a street near Taco Giro, which Grijalva described as a small mom-and-pop restaurant.
She said the community members stopped the officers “because they were afraid they [the agents] were taking people without due process.”
“I was here — this is like the restaurant I come to literally once a week — and was sprayed in the face by a very aggressive agent, pushed around by others, when I literally was not being aggressive,” Grijalva said in a video posted to social platform X. “I was asking for clarification, which is my right as a member of Congress.”
Watch:
DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, however, says there are big problems with the congresswoman's story:
If her claims were true, this would be a medical marvel.
But they’re not true. She wasn’t pepper sprayed.
She was in the vicinity of someone who *was* pepper sprayed as they were obstructing and assaulting law enforcement. In fact, 2 law enforcement officers were seriously injured by this mob that @Rep_Grijalva joined.
Presenting one’s self as a “Member of Congress” doesn’t give you the right to obstruct law enforcement.
More information forthcoming.
White House deputy press secretary Abigail Marone added on X that "being a Member of Congress doesn't give you the 'right' to inject yourself into an ongoing law enforcement operation, obstruct, and demand information."
I found the video Grijalva made informative - but not for the reasons she thinks it is.
Firstly, she claims she was "pepper-sprayed in the face," but not a speck of eye makeup is out of place. And not a hair is out of place. In fact, it looks like she just stepped out of a salon.
If you're sprayed in the face with pepper-spray, wouldn't your eyes look irritated and eye makeup washed away? Further, she said she and staff members had "remnants" of the pepper-spray on their faces, and then she immediately coughed as though to emphasize the point, as though that's proof of the supposed pepper-spraying.
Also, if she was handled very "aggressively" by the agents - as she claimed she was, wouldn't she look more dishevelled than she does?
Most importantly, however, was that not only was she greenlighting community interference in a dangerous federal operation, but she and her staff joined in, which was undoubtedly a signal to the mob already assembled that it was okay to do. And according to DHS, two law enforcement officers got seriously injured in the process.
Rep. Grijalva should be formally apologizing to the officers who were hurt and to the others who could have been hurt as a result of the mob's behavior and her irresponsible actions. Instead, she jumps on social media to pretend like she's the real victim in all of this, a shameful display only made worse by the fact that her stunt will only inspire more woketivists to interfere in operations that truly do take some of the most violent criminal illegals off of our streets.
Then again, as I wrote earlier, this seems to be the norm for Democrats: standing up for the worst of the worst instead of the American people she was elected to represent, so I guess we shouldn't be too surprised.
