Minneapolis Police Chief Urges Residents to Call 911 on ICE Agents

RedState

Apparently, many people in Minnesota are certifiably insane, considering that they voted for Tim Walz as their governor and have veered about as left as any state in the union. The latest to spout ridiculousness is Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, who advised citizens on Tuesday to call 911 if they see ICE agents “kidnapping” people.

ICE raids reportedly heated up in the city on Wednesday after massive welfare fraud was uncovered by the feds, much of it committed by the large Somali community there.

City leaders are freaking out over the ICE presence, and apparently would rather let illegal aliens just go about their day. What’s actually scarier than possibly dangerous illegal aliens, according to the chief, is the prospect of random people in masks kidnapping people for no apparent reason (which I have seen exactly zero reports of):

“We have experienced reports in this city … where people call to say that there’s folks that are masked, that they’re not sure if they’re law enforcement, that they may be kidnapping people. We have had those reports,” O’Hara said during a baffling news conference.

He issued the bizarre plea Tuesday, when Mayor Jacob Frey accused immigration authorities of “targeting Somali people” based strictly on their appearance and claimed it was “inevitable” that ICE would round up American citizens in the operation.

Note to Mayor Frey: Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin explicitly addressed that issue on Wednesday. "What makes someone a target of ICE is not their race or ethnicity," she said, "but the fact that they are in the country illegally."

Back to O'Hara:

The chief thinks police officers should “intervene” with operations if they don’t like what they’re seeing. I don’t think that would go well for them:

“The community should know that if you see something like that, that is legitimate, that you don’t know if someone is law enforcement, you should call 911, and you should provide as much information as possible,” he said, pledging that cops “absolutely have a duty to intervene” in such cases.

Border Czar Tom Homan had harsh words for O’Hara, saying he should “put his badge in the desk drawer”:

Remember, this is the same city where authorities watched looters and arsonists burn the place virtually to the ground during the 2020 George Floyd riots. Although O’Hara was not with the Minneapolis force at that time, Tim Walz was governor, and his wife enjoyed the smell of burning tires.

The chief took heat in May from progressives for surprisingly criticizing the response to the riots and the “bizarre” political atmosphere in Minneapolis. Perhaps now he’s just trying to win back the favor of the far-left city council — or maybe he’s just had too much of the water from the area.

There’s clearly something in it.
