DHS Says It Is Making 'Final Necessary Arrangements' to Deport Abrego Garcia 'As Soon As Oct. 31'

RedState

The Trump Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shared where it's planning to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia--and they say it could happen "as soon as Oct. 31," thanks to the African nation of Liberia now agreeing to accept third-country individuals into their prison system, according to a court filing on Friday.

Previously, as RedState wrote, the U.S. sought to repatriate him to his home country of El Salvador, but as time has dragged on, the illegal immigrant who lives in Maryland and his legal counsel insisted that it was among a laundry list of 22 countries where Abrego Garcia would not be safe:

It turns out that Uganda and El Salvador aren't the only countries on the planet where Abrego Garcia allegedly fears for his safety, according to a document obtained by Fox News' Bill Melugin.

Melugin broke the story via a post on his X account, sharing an email he says that ICE sent through Abrego Garcia's lawyers to the illegal alien on Friday afternoon. In the email, the Trump administration appears to be losing patience with the excuses.

ICE writes that "[t]he claim of fear is hard to take seriously, especially given that you have claimed (through your attorneys) that you fear persecution or torture in at least 22 countries."

So ICE took another swing at bat, announcing in Sept. he would be sent to the tiny African nation of Eswatini, which was formerly known as Swaziland.

And as my colleague Bob Hoge wrote in early Oct., a federal judge denied Abego Garcia's desperate filing asking for his immigration case to be reopened. In that ruling, the judge addressed the Trump administration's plans to possibly send the illegal alien to Uganda instead:

The judge also ruled that although the government had floated the idea of deporting Abrego Garcia to Uganda, it was not necessarily a done deal:

There was also reporting that, in a previous filing, the Trump administration thought about maybe sending him to Ghana. They're persistent.

Anyway, on Friday, DHS said Liberia had made "diplomatic assurances regarding the treatment of third-country individuals removed to Liberia from the United States and are making the final necessary arrangements for [Abrego Garcia's] removal," per ABC News.

Team Trump didn't stop there, though, laying out their clear reasons in picking Liberia - and I'm no lawyer, but they seem tailor-made to rebut the defense lawyers' claims he would be tortured and mistreated in a very alien place on the other side of the world:

A Friday court filing from the Department of Homeland Security notes that “Liberia is a thriving democracy and one of the United States’s closest partners on the African continent.” Its national language is English; its constitution “provides robust protections for human rights;” and Liberia is “committed to the humane treatment of refugees,” the filing reads. It concludes that Abrego Garcia could be deported as soon as Oct. 31.

Unsurprisingly, Abrego Garcia's legal team is reacting to the move as "punitive, cruel, and unconstitutional," writing in a statement that they demand he be sent as a "refugee" to Costa Rica:.

“After failed attempts with Uganda, Eswatini, and Ghana, ICE now seeks to deport our client, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, to Liberia, a country with which he has no connection, thousands of miles from his family and home in Maryland.

"Costa Rica stands ready to accept him as a refugee, a viable and lawful option. Yet the government has chosen a course calculated to inflict maximum hardship. These actions are punitive, cruel, and unconstitutional.”

This is a developing story. RedState will provide further updates as they become available.
