TX Police Officer Shot in Neck at ICE Detention Center, Multiple Suspects Arrested Wearing Body Armor
My first thought when reading about this was, what were these violent activists planning? Why were they wearing body armor and masks?
Here’s what happened: a police officer in Alvarado, Texas, responded to a report about a suspicious individual outside an ICE detention center in the late hours of the Fourth of July, according to authorities. When the officer tried to approach the suspect, an unknown number of assailants started shooting and the officer was struck in the neck.
Luckily, he was treated and released by a local hospital, but the incident is nonetheless disturbing:
Just before 11 p.m., the Alvarado Police Department said it was called to the 1200 block of Sunflower Lane, outside the ICE Prairieland Detention Facility, on a report of a suspicious person. When officers arrived, they saw a person who appeared to be carrying a firearm, according to a news release…
According to Alvarado police, several armed suspects were taken into custody after trying to flee the scene with the help of local agencies, including the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
The Justice Department issued a statement Saturday morning saying they were well aware of the situation and were keeping their eyes on it (profanity alert):
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is responding to the Texas incident in the above tweet, but also presumably to another violent episode that occurred in June when protesters attacked an ICE facility in Portland, Oregon. RedState’s Nick Arama wrote up that one:
Anti-ICE Action Against Portland Facility Gets Absolutely Crushed by Fed Agents
What’s disturbing about this incident is these folks were clearly ready for battle, and like the deranged assassin in Coeur d’Alene who shot responding firefighters, tragically killing two, these guys appear to have intentionally lured authorities to the scene:
The source told CBS News that early reports indicate that more than a dozen masked individuals dressed in black arrived at the Prairieland ICE detention facility late Friday night and vandalized vehicles and security cameras in the parking lot.
The individuals launched fireworks in an apparent effort to lure law enforcement, the source said.
The ongoing attacks against federal law enforcement in this country have reached critical levels, and the Trump administration is showing they’re not taking them lightly. Tragedy was averted here, but from the looks of it, it could have been much worse.
Hopefully these eight suspects “find out.”
