Jamie Raskin Is Going to Have a Tough Time Getting Off the Mat After This Trump Roundhouse

Rusty Weiss reporting for RedState

President Trump eviscerated Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) after the congressman admitted to having little idea there was a 'no tax on tips' provision in the "big, beautiful bill."

Raskin's confession is a sign that his knowledge of the bill is limited, making his objection to it willful ignorance.

In an interview with CNN's Kasie Hunt on Tuesday, the Maryland Democrat was asked whether or not he supported the very popular platform. To Hunt's surprise, Raskin seemed shocked that it had made it into the bill.

"You know, I haven’t looked seriously at it because I haven’t thought they were serious about it," he replied.

Trying to save face by providing an actual answer, the congressman suggested that tips are income and should be subject to a "much more progressive income tax," but then said he's not necessarily opposed to avoiding taxes on them.

He downplayed the provision as a "symbolic consolation prize" even as a remarkable 83 percent of hourly workers support the measure.

President Trump took to his Truth Social media platform to lambaste Raskin for not knowing what he was talking about regarding the bill, and really, in general.

And he did so in a style only the President could pull off with a hilarious takedown.

"Rep. Jamie Raskin, a third-rate Democrat politician, has no idea what is in our fantastic Tax Cut Bill, nor would he understand it if he did," Trump wrote. "This DOPE has been consistently losing to me for YEARS, and I love watching his ugly face as he is forced to consistently concede DEFEAT TO TRUMP."

"And tonight should be another of those nights," he added, knowing the House is likely to vote on passage of the "big, beautiful bill" at some point tonight or early Thursday. "Raskin is a bad politician, and a TOTAL LOSER!"

It's hard to argue that the President is wrong with his take on Raskin. This is, after all, the same guy who recently demanded that the Trump administration return criminal illegal "gangbangers" to America.

Raskin is also the same rube who called for Trump's impeachment before he had even spent 24 hours in the White House ... for his first term. In fact, he had publicly acknowledged his intent to impeach Trump before he was inaugurated.

“I just know that if I’m going to vote to impeach the man at some point, I would like to be able to look him in the eye on Inauguration Day,” he said during a telephone interview the week before Trump's 2017 inauguration.

Oh, and here's a fun fact for you. Raskin, in 2016, officially and during the proceedings certifying electoral votes, was one of the Democrats who stood up and objected to the presidential election results 11 separate times.

Four years later, Raskin and the Democrats had redefined such objections as an insurrection, an assault on democracy, and borderline treason.

The President is right - Raskin has been going after Trump for years and losing, bigly.

It must truly pain him to see the man he hoped to eject from the White House on day one has been the focal point of the political world for nearly a decade, has won two terms in the Oval Office, and is seeing his popularity soar higher than it has ever been.
