Michelle Obama Says She’s Glad She Didn’t Have a Son: “He’d Be Another Barack”
Babies were part of the discussion, with radio host Angie Martinez as the guest.
“You should’ve threw a boy in the mix,” Martinez said during the conversation.
“I’m so glad I didn’t have a boy,” Michelle replied.
“Why didn’t you throw in a boy?” Martinez continued, laughing.
“Because he would have been a Barack Obama,” Michelle said, shaking her head in apparent disgust at the thought.
“Ooh. Baby Barack! It would have been amazing,” Martinez added.
“No, I would’ve felt for him,” Michelle said.
The exchange took place during an episode of Michelle Obama’s podcast, “IMO,” released Wednesday.
Observers online noted how Michelle’s tone and wording suggest growing disdain for her husband.
Rumors of a possible split between Michelle and Barack Obama began swirling last year after the couple largely stopped appearing together in public.
Their absence was especially noticeable during the 2024 campaign trail.
Michelle also missed the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter in January — an event attended by every other living former first lady.
During an April interview, Michelle explained her decision:
“I chose to do what was best for me, not what I had to do.”
She continued:
“And that’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with, like, disappointing people.”
“I mean, so much so that this year people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
