ALLIES LAUNCHED THE LARGEST ARMADA IN HISTORY
The largest naval armada in history was launched during Operation Neptune, which was the naval component of the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944.
This operation involved an Allied fleet of 5,333 ships and landing craft, carrying an advance formation of 175,000 soldiers and totaling 100,000 tons of equipment.
The D-Day invasion involved troops from over 12 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Netherlands, France, Greece, New Zealand, Norway, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and Poland.
