TDS-Induced Brain Rot Leads Axios Founder to Float Bizarro Theory About Trump's 2028 Plans
We are only on day three of Donald Trump's second term as president and, already, Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is reaching unprecedented levels. We're talking about the kind of unhinged lunacy that used to warrant a visit from the men in the white coats and some time spent on the lawn of the local insane asylum.
If you want to see how a case of rampant TDS manifests itself, look no further than Jim VandeHei, founder of the political website Axios. We've talked about VandeHei before here on the pages of RedState, mostly due to his impotent rage at Trump winning a trip back to the White House, and the sad reality that VandeHei's self-important idea of journalism is dead.
Shortly after November's election, Elon Musk launched a five-word tweet into the universe that was VandeHei's undoing: "You are the media now."
Remember this?
Turns out, VandeHei couldn't forget it. At an awards ceremony a few weeks after THAT tweet from Musk, VandeHei completely flipped his wig and had a very public break from reality with this rant:
Warning: coarse language
Everything we do is under fire. Elon Musk sits on Twitter everyday — or X today — saying, "We are the media! You are the media!" My message to Elon Musk is: "Bulls**t! You're not the media!"
You having a blue checkmark, a Twitter handle and three-hundred words of cleverness doesn't make you a reporter. You don't do that by popping off on Twitter. You don't do that by having an opinion. You do it by doing the hard work.
VandeHei seems determined every day to prove Musk right, by taking to the pages of Axios and spewing utter dreck. In his latest fever dream, VandeHei imagines a world in which Donald Trump runs for vice president in 2028 because he sees himself as a king.
Hoo boy, let's try to unravel this mess.
The piece in question was published Wednesday in Axios's morning newsletter. Entitled "Behind the Curtain: The new judge and jury," VandeHei and his co-author, Mike Allen, start off with a screed about Trump's J6 pardons, then angrily journey through the president's newfound interest in crypto and, finally, conclude that Trump's strong leadership and financial security can only mean one thing: he's going to make himself king by running for vice president.
It's a complete and utter break with reality. Let's make no mistake here, VandeHei's co-author Allen may have been contractually obligated to put his name on the article, but the inane conclusion is pure VandeHei. His family may want to intervene at this point.
The duo craftily tried to tuck the point in question into the end of the article, but the absurdity of it stands out and obliterates any other points they were trying to make:
- Trump or future presidents could simply run for a de facto third term — as the vice presidential nominee, with the understanding they will take power back once elected. That's but one of the once-unthinkable scenarios that seem more thinkable than ever.
Got that? Trump could run for vice president in 2028, when he will be 82, in order to make sure his monarchy continues after he is constitutionally prevented from being president.
Hmmm, where have we seen this diabolical plot before? Oh, I know! Could it be something called "Joe Biden's presidency"? You know, that time when a cognitively deteriorating Biden was frog-marched out as the Democrat Party's candidate in order to, say, continue the divisive policies inflicted on the country by Barack Obama?
President Trump is just getting started, so we can expect the continued mental decline from an increasingly irrelevant corporate media to continue apace.
And if the president isn't too busy, he might want to look into making insane asylums great again.
