(Alleged) would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh wrote 2023 memoir about how Ukraine must win ‘unwinnable war’ and advocating for killing Trump

Ryan Wesley Routh, the man under investigation for a second assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Sunday, wrote a book with his fiancé about how Ukraine must win the "unwinnable war" against Russia in which he discussed Donald Trump being assassinated. The book was published last year.
The book is titled, "Ukraine's Unwinnable War: The Fatal Flaw of Democracy, World Abandonment, and the Global Citizen-Taiwan, Afghanistan, North Korea, and the End of Humanity." It was written by Routh and his fiancé Kathleen Schaffer.
While discussing the Russia-Ukraine war, Routh wrote, “I presume that I must be clear, that while on the current path Ukraine will not win, it is imperative for the world that they do win, and that's why this book is so important, for us to recognize that losing is not an option and what we must do to win.”
Routh wrote of Trump in the book with disparaging terms and supported the assassination of the now-GOP nominee.
“I must take part of the blame for the retarded child that we elected for our next president that ended up being brainless, but I am man enough to say that I misjudged and made a terrible mistake and Iran I apologize," he wrote.
“You are free to assassinate Trump as well as me,” he continued, “for that error in judgment and the dismantling of the deal. No one here in the US seems to have the balls to put natural selection to work or even unnatural selection.”
On Sunday, the son of the reported would-be assassin told The Daily Mail that his father hates the former president like “every reasonable person does” and claimed he’s not a violent person. Oran Routh, 35, told the outlet, “He’s not a violent person. He’s a hard worker and a great dad. He’s a great dude, a nice guy, and has worked his whole f*cking life.”
Trump was playing the course at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida when US Secret Service (USSS) agents noticed the barrel of a rifle protruding through a chain link fence about 300 to 500 yards away and opened fire on Ryan Wesley Routh. Routh fled in a black Nissan but was quickly apprehended. Investigators found a GoPro camera, two backpacks, and an AR-style rifle he reportedly left behind in the trees near the course. This was the second assassination attempt on the former president in two months.
Routh had been operating a website aimed at recruiting and transporting fighters and volunteers from around the world to fight in Ukraine. In 2023, The New York Times featured him for his work in recruiting and transporting fighters to support Ukraine. He even shared on social media that he previously attempted to pitch the idea of enlisting former Afghan soldiers to fight for Ukraine against Russia.
In Feb. 2022, Routh posted that he proclaimed to ABC’s David Muir that he was "willing to die for Ukraine." Routh has also financially supported Democratic candidates and progressive causes since 2019. He also posted that Trump wanted to "make Americans slaves against master," urging Joe Biden to run a campaign centered on keeping "America democratic and free" back before Biden dropped out in favor of Kamala Harris, per the New York Post.
