Media Stunned As Mulcair Backs Poilievre On Not Reading NSICOP Report
Remember, both Elizabeth May and Jagmeet Singh say they’ve read the report, yet have come to opposite conclusions about it. Elizabeth May says there’s basically nothing to worry about, while Jagmeet Singh says the report shows some MPs are “traitors.”
In remarks that clearly stunned much of the media, Former NDP Leader Tom Mulcair said he “agreed completely with the call” by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre not to read the NSICOP report on foreign interference.
As Mulcair noted, he would not “want to be hamstrung as the leader of a party, I don’t want to be told that now that I’ve seen this, I can’t say that.”
Remember, both Elizabeth May and Jagmeet Singh say they’ve read the report, yet have come to opposite conclusions about it. Elizabeth May says there’s basically nothing to worry about, while Jagmeet Singh says the report shows some MPs are “traitors.”
But now, both May and Singh are limited in what they can say by having looked at the report. They cleared up absolutely nothing. There are more questions than before.
And that of course is exactly what the Liberal government wants.
It is essential for Canadians to understand the game the Liberals are playing here.
It was the Conservatives – under Pierre Poilievre – who demanded an inquiry into foreign interference.
It was the Conservatives – under Pierre Poilievre – who have been demanding a Foreign Agent Registry.
Meanwhile, it’s the Liberals – under Justin Trudeau – who first dismissed the foreign interference crisis as ‘racism,’ then refused calls for an inquiry for months and then tried to avoid an inquiry with their desperate ‘Special Rapporteur’ gambit.
They also have long refused to bring in a Foreign Agents Registry before recently proposing one that – surprise surprise – lacks independence and concentrates power in the hands of the Prime Minister.
Those are the facts.
So, when you see the Liberals trying to make it all about Pierre Poilievre, ask yourself why that is?
The Liberal government could simply release the names.
They could come clean with Canadians.
They refuse.
They hope that by focusing on Poilievre they can muddy the waters and try to make everyone look equally guilty.
But through their actions, the Liberals are making it abundantly clear that they are by far the most afraid of the truth being revealed.
