ARE YOU A “Conspiracy Theorist”?
Dear Ross,
It’s no secret that the legacy media is failing.
As the years go on, they require more and more government bailouts and various schemes – like trying to force social media companies to pay them every time someone shares one of their links – to stay afloat.
Trudeau showers legacy media outlets with money; the legacy media reports positively on his performance.
Trudeau tries to shake down Facebook for more bailout money; the legacy media frames the story as Trudeau being the good guy.
Trudeau adds millions more to CBC’s already bloated budget; the CBC sues the Conservative Party during an election.
It’s not hard to see how this relationship works.
But in a recent interview, Trudeau actually said the quiet part out loud.
While lamenting the rise of non-government-funded media, Trudeau said:
“... the CBC and CTV, when they were our only sources of news, used to – and Global News used to – project across the country, at least a common understanding of things.”
What does he have to say about thriving independent media outlets like True North that don’t take government money?
“There are the conspiracy theorists, and there are the social media drivers who are trying to do everything they can to keep people in their little filter bubbles to prevent people from actually agreeing on a common set of facts.”
There you have it.
According to Trudeau, you simply can’t trust media that isn’t funded by the government!
So, Ross – are you a conspiracy theorist?
Our Prime Minister certainly seems to think so.
It is now out in the open: our country’s leader believes you can only be properly informed if you listen to government-funded media.
Ross, I don’t think I need to list the examples of the legacy media getting things wrong over the years (of which there are hundreds).
But I do need to ask for your help.
Unlike the legacy outlets Trudeau is so fond of, we don’t accept government money.
We don’t think journalists can report the news accurately if they are beholden to the federal government – the very institution they are supposed to be holding to account.
If you agree with us, and would like to see independent media continue to thrive, please make a donation today.
The Prime Minister has picked his side. Have you picked yours?
Thank you for your support.
Andrew Lawton
