'Face the Nation' Tries to Run Cover for Mayorkas on Border, Speaker Johnson Is Having None of It

Bob Hoge reporting for RedState

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) appeared on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday, and while host Margaret Brennan tried to sell the congressman on Biden administration propaganda, Johnson wasn't buying.

The interview took place last week at Eagle Pass, Texas, where the Speaker and 64 other GOP congressmen went to the southern border to see just how bad the conditions are down there. (Hint: really bad.)

Brennan asked Johnson why Republicans were trying to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and then laughably argued that they needed his help to solve the problem. Mayorkas has shown exactly zero interest during his tenure in securing the border, and his relationship with the truth has been tenuous at best. Asking him for help is like asking the arsonist to assist in putting out the fire.

Johnson fired back:

“We’ve been asking … Secretary Mayorkas since he took office, to enforce the law, to do his job, and he’s done exactly the opposite. He’s testified untruthfully before Congress, repeatedly,” Johnson responded.

Brennan interjected to ask Johnson, “But why focus the congressional resources on going ahead with an impeachment when they could be dealing with the actual issues here on the ground?”

“Our … Homeland Security Committee has done its job,” he responded. “They have a constitutional responsibility, a legal responsibility, to investigate what is happening with the agency that they have oversight for. They’ve done that for a year, very methodically, carefully, in detail. And they’ve documented all that.”

Watch:

But Johnson wasn't done, saying that Mayorkas was an "abject failure” and that the Biden administration's crisis was actually manufactured on purpose:

I believe he [Mayorkas] has done this intentionally. I think these are intentional policy decisions that he’s made. And I think there must be accountability for that. And I can tell you, the vast majority of Americans agree with us on that point. [Emphasis mine.]

This isn't the first time since Johnson's border visit that the lamestream media has tried to act as Mayorkas' press agent:

Jake Tapper Wingman for Biden's Border Crisis, Gets Fact-Checked by Speaker Johnson

Brennan continued to try to push back, claiming that calling Mayorkas' repeated telling of falsehoods lies was just "semantics," but once again the Speaker brought reality to the table.

“Secretary Mayorkas is not a good-faith negotiating partner,” Johnson said. “He is unwilling to enforce existing federal law. Why would we believe that he would do any new provision? He’s lied to Congress repeatedly. He’s lied to me personally, under oath.

It's pathetic watching Tapper, Brennan, and others try to play apologists for this administration when the border is out of control. However, the blame is not all Mayorkas' -- it's the man in the Oval who's ultimately responsible for this calamity, and until America kicks him and his administration out of office, the border situation is unlikely to improve.
