Rep. Troy Nehls Says Trump Is Endorsing Jim Jordan for Speaker
According to a Thursday evening social media post by Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), we can stop speculating whether or not former President Donald Trump will make a run for the House Speaker position—because he’s endorsing Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).
Jordan announced his candidacy Wednesday, as did House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), after the dramatic ouster of Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) Tuesday.
Journalist Nick Sortor weighed in:
JUST IN: Trump has endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House, according to @RepTroyNehls
It looks like the Speaker’s race is shaping up to be between @Jim_Jordan—the leader of the Freedom Caucus—and Steve Scalise—the current House Majority Leader.
Jordan has received the endorsement of @MattGaetz, @RepThomasMassie,
@RepTroyNehls, and more. Will you get behind Jim Jordan for Speaker?
If true, this endorsement shouldn't come as a huge surprise since Jordan has been a one-man wrecking crew in taking on Biden's Justice Department on a number of matters, including Attorney General Merrick Garland's two-tiered system of justice—which seems to always tip the scales against Trump while others like First Son Hunter Biden appear to get treated with kid gloves.
As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Jordan has also relentlessly defended Trump and taken on the FBI, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis, and others to task for what he sees as their political persecution of the former president.
Obviously, if Trump does formally endorse Jordan, it will give the Freedom Caucus member a huge boost in his chances to win the job. The former President is far and away the leader in the polls for the GOP presidential nomination, so he's still a powerful force in the party.
While some would prefer Scalise or someone else over the Ohio congressman, Jordan fans like podcaster and political strategist Joey Mannarino are thrilled with the idea:
President Trump is endorsing Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.
Honestly, I could never have imagined that Matt Gaetz would have pulled this off. We literally traded McCarthy for Jordan. This is like a dream.
The enemies of the conservative movement are not going to be happy!
Now that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has announced his intention to run for Speaker of the House, Democrats are already melting down. This is especially true of “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, who recently referred to Jordan as a “terrorist.”
Hostin made the comments on Thursday’s airing of the ABC talk show while discussing the news about former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy being removed from his position. “I will just say about Jim Jordan: He has been called, by his own party, by John Boehner, a political terrorist,” she said.
Hostin then recalled her impressions of Jordan when she testified before Congress.
I testified in front of Congress about something so simple, cameras and courtrooms. He came in late, he looked disheveled, and he immediately was screaming and yelling, and terrorized me and the other experts on the panel. And describing him as a terrorist is exactly that. He's a chaos agent, and it came out of nowhere, and he had no command of the subject that we were talking about, which made it even scarier. So, to have the thought of him being the Speaker of the House, I think, leads to more chaos for the country. But his role model is Donald Trump, who has no command of the language either.
Last time I checked, engaging in a heated debate didn’t qualify as an act of terror. Perhaps Hostin should have checked with the Department of Homeland Security first before throwing that term around. (Fox News)
On Wednesday, Jordan told reporters that he would be throwing his hat into the ring in the race to become the next Speaker of the House. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) also plans to run for this position.
Jordan made the announcement the day after McCarthy’s ouster.
House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, announced he is running for speaker — the first GOP lawmaker to put his hat in the ring for what's sure to be a competitive race.
The House of Representatives is without an elected leader after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., was ousted by a small group of rebels within his own party.
Jordan said Wednesday morning that he would step up to run for the job. House Republicans plan to hold a candidate forum next Tuesday and an election the following day.
During an impromptu conference with members of the press, he was asked whether he tends to run for the position. He responded, “Yes.” Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) is also expected to run for speaker.
The word “terrorist” has become one of the left’s favorite terms used to describe people who oppose their politics. They used it against parents who protested at school board meetings. Democrats and their close friends and allies even pioneered a new term to cast their opponents as dangerous individuals: Stochastic terrorism, which refers to people using rhetoric critical of people on the left.
In this vein, it’s no surprise that Hostin would resort to using this type of language to describe Jordan. One only needs to watch a few minutes of her commentary to see that she doesn’t have much in the way of substance. For folks like this, it’s easier to just portray someone as a wicked monster than it is to argue based on policy and ideology. Besides, if someone speaking loudly causes Hostin to feel terror, then perhaps she is in the wrong line of work.
