James Comer Previews the Game Plan for the First Impeachment Inquiry Hearing

Bonchie reporting for RedState

The first impeachment inquiry hearing targeting President Joe Biden has been scheduled in the House of Representatives. According to Rep. James Comer, Thursday will be the day, and he's already revealing who the witnesses will be.

On Monday night, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced the witnesses for the first hearing on the Biden impeachment inquiry.

The witnesses include Bruce Dubinsky, the founder of Dubinsky Consulting and a forensic accountant; Eileen O'Connor, who formerly served as the assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) tax division; and Professor Johnathon Turley of George Washington University Law School, who has offered analysis and insight about the Biden family corruption and impeachment inquiries.

Comer also released a statement further previewing what the game plan is.

“Since January, House Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means have uncovered an overwhelming amount of evidence showing President Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain. Thousands of pages of financial records, emails, texts, testimony from credible IRS whistleblowers, and a transcribed interview with Biden family business associate Devon Archer all reveal that Joe Biden allowed his family to sell him as 'the brand' around the world to enrich the Biden family. Joe Biden showed up on at least two dozen occasions to send signals of access, influence, and power to those who were paying the Bidens," Comer said, discussing some of the evidence found about the Biden family corruption.

The witness list is interesting in that it may point to what level of evidence Comer and his team have compiled. Having a forensic accountant lead things off says a lot, and it's a smart play because it puts someone with expertise and authority making the case instead of a politician. I suspect the former DOJ tax division official will also be used to add an air of seriousness to the charges by laying out how this compares to other cases.

The Bidens have long been accused of receiving favorable treatment from the DOJ. Now special counsel David Weiss allowed the statute of limitations to run out on multiple tax felonies allegedly committed by Hunter Biden. During that same investigation, the DOJ also put the brakes on IRS investigative agents pursuing Joe Biden.

The House's impeachment inquiry will allow for elevated subpoena power that could be decisive in proving that the president engaged in impeachable behavior. You will likely see Biden's personal finances gone through with a fine tooth comb. To this point, congressional investigators have had to rely on cooperation from banks, but now they hold the cards to really dig deep.

Thursday is sure to produce some fireworks. Stay tuned.
