Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Held a Town Hall, and Things Got Very Spicy
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a town hall in Queens on Saturday night, and things got very spicy. Despite the district’s hard left-wing bent, participants in the event held up critical signs and heckled the “squad” member over multiple hot-button issues, including illegal immigration and transgender ideology.
Townhall reported on what transpired with the audience, including some of the choice words that were used.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) was booed off stage during a New York City town hall by attendees who were frustrated by the Democrat’s position on the looming debt ceiling issue, the border crisis, and the millions of dollars being funneled to Ukraine.
Hecklers shouted at the Squad member several times, telling her that she doesn’t put America first.
“American citizens before migrants,” one man shouted as he walked toward AOC holding small American flags. “Where are you on the migrant issue? You’re a piece of s—t.”
(…)
Multiple people attending the town hall in Queens held signs that read “AOC: an obvious criminal,” while another read “AOC: Stop pushing drag queen story hour.”
Another asked if the U.S. would do anything to stop the war with Russia, suggesting the country was on the brink of a nuclear war; she previously voted to send over $100 billion to Ukraine after suggesting she supported the idea of removing the debt ceiling.
What was once territory that only served to provide Ocasio-Cortez with photo-ops has become increasingly hostile over the last year. Prior to the last mid-term elections, the congresswoman appeared to have a nervous breakdown while being confronted by protesters at another town hall event, awkwardly dancing while the crowd cheered “AOC has got to go.” She was eventually rushed out of the room after the crowd got too rowdy.
In this latest episode, security was present and removed the hecklers after a time, but it’s interesting to see someone like Ocasio-Cortez, who normally operates within a perfectly insulated bubble of constant praise, face continued pushback in public. Is she going to lose her seat because of some hecklers at a town hall? Given that she represents one of the bluest districts in the country, that’s obviously not going to happen. Still, some of these cultural issues cross political lines, and Democrats are playing with fire nationally by continuing to ignore their own constituents at the behest of special interests.
Ocasio-Cortez’s other problem is the backlash that’s building on her left flank. She talks a big game, but when push has come to shove, she’s fallen in line with Democratic Party leadership time and again. The far-left isn’t going to just sit idle while being paid lip service with big promises that never come to fruition. These are true believers we are talking about, and if Ocasio-Cortez continues to fail them, they will slowly turn on her and look for another champion. The congresswoman wants to thread the needle between radicalism and advancement, and I’m not sure she can get away with it. Time will tell on that note.
