House GOP Launches Major Strike, Subpoenas Biden Bank Records

Bonchie reporting for RedState

House Republicans launched their first major strike against the Bidens, subpoenaing bank records for a variety of family members and associates on Friday. The House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. James Comer, will now have transaction records from banks such as Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase (Fox News).

Rep. Jamie Raskin, a leading member of the now-defunct January 6th committee, is crying foul, claiming that Republicans are hiding information from Democrats.

The House Oversight Committee issued subpoenas to banks asking for the Biden family associates financial records.

Fox News has confirmed that the Oversight Committee subpoenaed Bank of America, Cathay Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and HSBC USA N.A., as well as former Hunter Biden business associate Mervyn Yan, asking for financial records.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, complained that Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., was trying to hide information regarding the investigation from Democrats on the committee.

The shamelessness of politicians never ceases to amaze me. Throughout the Pelosi era in the House, Republicans were sidelined and even barred from major committees, including the aforementioned January 6th committee. Information was constantly kept hidden for political gain, often leaked selectively by corrupt members like Rep. Adam Schiff. Now, Raskin wants to complain that Republicans are playing by the same rules his party established. Let’s just say his argument isn’t persuasive at all.

Mervyn Yan is an especially interesting character in this saga. He and Hunter Biden were business associates in a company called CEFC China Energy. The president’s son made millions in “consulting fees.” What he was actually doing to earn that money remains unclear.

Hunter Biden’s relationship with Yan was officially dissolved in 2018, but not before the two of them had a falling out. According to emails, Hunter Biden demanded lavish expenses be paid by the company while Yan objected, noting they had nothing to do with the company’s business. That included a house in Sweden, among other things.

In short, Hunter Biden was “consulting” for a Chinese company while raking in millions of dollars. An astute observer might question exactly what said Chinese company was getting in return, and that will be part of what the House GOP investigates. Further, given that Yan obviously has no love for Hunter Biden at this point, he might be more than willing to cooperate if pressed.

As to whether this leads back to Joe Biden, that’s an open question. No doubt, enough evidence has emerged that he was aware of his son’s business dealings. Just how involved he was, though, will need to be fleshed out. Did he receive any money directly or indirectly? The bank records being subpoenaed will hopefully shed some light on that.

Regarding the cries from Democrats, Republicans should simply ignore them. We are living in a new era of politics. The old rules do not apply because Democrats destroyed the old rules for temporary gain. Now, they will be made to live by the standards they have set. That’s a right and good thing.
