Sen. Paul: Fauci Engaged in 'Perhaps the Most Massive Cover-Up in Modern Medical History'

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), pushed the idea that the COVID virus came from nature, a "wet market," instead of from a Chinese virology lab because "he felt guilty about funding the research in China that became COVID-19," said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Utah) in a March 7 interview with Newsmax.
The narrative that Fauci created and spread to the American public while he worked for the government was "perhaps the most massive cover-up in modern medical history," added Paul. (In addition to his work at NIAID for many years, Fauci was the Chief Medical Adviser to President Joe Biden.)
During the interview on Newsmax's Rob Schmitt Tonight, the host mentioned to Paul that the Department of Energy recently concluded that COVID originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China, a conclusion also shared by the FBI and many medical experts.
Schmitt went on to say that because of House committee investigations, there is "a staggering amount of evidence that Tony Fauci and also [former NIH Director] Francis Collins pretended to be unaware of the lab-leak theory as COVID hit the United States, and actually worked very hard behind the scenes to destroy it [this idea]."
"Fauci got up in front of the entire country in the first days of COVID, when everybody was watching those press conferences, and cited a study claiming that the virus was likely from a wet market and not from a lab," said Schmitt. "And he hid the fact that he helped to create that narrative. Why do you think he would do that in the first days of the pandemic?"
Senator Paul replied, “Well, because he felt guilty about funding the research in China that became COVID-19. And so, I think his guilt and his fear of retribution, or his fear of culpability, led him to perhaps the most massive cover-up in modern medical history."

“From the very first day, the end of January 2020, he’s exchanging emails," said Paul. "On January 31, 2020, he emailed all night long. The next day he has a video-conference and in that conference all of the virologists are telling him they think it came from the [Wuhan] lab. And he convinces them that day — we don't know exactly how because that's been redacted — but he convinces them to change their mind and write an article for a scientific journal, which he then uses to justify why this has to have come from nature.”
Paul continued, “But there has been a lot of research done in the last two or three years. We’ve looked at 80,000 animals and none of them had COVID before the COVID pandemic."
If no animals had COVID before the pandemic, it is highly unlikely that the virus originated in nature.

"We’ve also looked at the origins of this and we’ve discovered that three workers in the Wuhan lab in November 2019 got sick with symptoms similar, suspicious for COVID," said the senator.
"We also learned that in 2018 the Wuhan lab was asking for money from DARPA, which is part of our Defense Department, and they wanted to create a super virus that was a coronavirus with a furin cleavage site," added Paul.
"What’s a furin cleavage site?" he said. "It’s a peculiar thing that helps the virus invade the cell, and it just so happens to be in COVID-19. So a year before the pandemic the Wuhan lab is asking to create a virus that in the end looked just like COVID-19. Coincidence? I think not."
In other words, it is probable that the virus was man-made in a Wuhan lab and the funding that helped create COVID came from the United States. That is the theory suggested by Senator Paul.
According to tracking by The New York Times, 1,129,852 Americans have died from COVID. An estimated 69.8% of the U.S. population is vaccinated. Worldwide, 6,866,421 people reportedly have died from COVID.
