No Country for Old Men
Can someone explain to me why, in a country of over 330 million people, the two leading candidates for President of the United States are both cantankerous old men?
I admit, it’s a bit of a disappointment.
Whatever happened to passing the torch to a new generation?
On Election Day 2024, Joe Biden will be 82 years old while Donald Trump, the presumptive frontrunner for the GOP nomination, will be 78. That’s old for a country in which the average life expectancy for men is 73.5 years.
In a Twitter thread earlier this month, National Review columnist Dan McLaughlin put Joe Biden’s advanced age into historical context, starting it off by noting that one of Queen Victoria’s children was still alive when Biden was born. Queen Victoria was crowned in 1837 and died in 1901. The other things Dan highlights in his thread are equally mind-boggling.
And yet this 80-year-old man is the current President of the United States in 2023 and intends to run for reelection next year.
It’s like some kind of cruel joke. Have we already grown so cynical and disengaged that we would think two old men like Joe Biden and Donald Trump are the best the country has to offer?
The 80-year-old man currently in the White House is so gripped by dementia that since his first day in office, he has placed the presidency into the hands of ideological zealots who were chosen not for their competence and skill but for how many diversity boxes they check.
And every single one of those assholes has a seething hatred for this country and would love nothing more than see the United States of America crumble to the ground.
The entire Biden administration is powered by vengeance.
Meanwhile, the 76-year-old man currently leading the Republican field is so filled with bitter resentment that he is far more focused on exacting a little vengeance of his own rather than putting the interests of the American people first.
Trump has filled his campaign with devoted sycophants and dead-enders chosen not for what they can bring to the nation but for their undying fealty to him.
Biden, with his brain eaten away by dementia, truly believes that he has been a successful president. And if we disagree, we must be domestic terrorists and extremists who are a threat to “democracy.”
Trump, with his brain eaten away by resentment and bitterness, truly believes we owe it to him to make him president again. And if we disagree, we must be RINO, Globalist, Establishment cucks who are stabbing Trump in the back on behalf of our globalist paymasters.
What a pathetic transformation for a country built on so much promise less than 300 years ago.
If Biden wins reelection, the anti-American Leftists will double down, turning this one-time superpower into a pre-industrial-age backwater where the American Dream is replaced with “You will own nothing and you better be happy about it or else.”
Political opposition will be a thing of the past as the power behind the decrepit old Biden will expand its surveillance and prosecutorial powers to bring us to heel.
The country as we know it would not survive.
So what should we do? Should we nominate a presidential candidate who, by building a broad coalition of Americans, can establish a political movement that will continue growing stronger long after he is gone?
Or do we choose the bitter old man who believes the political movement begins and ends with him?
If Donald Trump manages to win the Republican nomination and by some miracle is victorious in the General Election, he would enter office on January 20, 2025, as a 78-year-old lame-duck President.
I’m under no illusion that as a lame-duck president, Donald Trump could achieve even a quarter of what Candidate Trump is promising.
If past performance is any indication, Trump will end up spending four years trudging waist-deep in the Swamp he is once again promising to drain while spending his nights anger-posting on Truth Social where he will blame everyone else for his failures. If he does anything remotely beneficial to the country, it will be through Executive Orders that, as Biden showed us, are easy to revoke.
What’s more, Trump’s coattails aren’t exactly broad. So what are the chances he would enter office with enough support in Congress to achieve any of his campaign promises in the four short years his lame-duck presidency afford him?
And if Trump does in 2024 what he did in 2022 and endorses a crop of dead-end Republican congressional candidates, chances are, the Democrats will at the very least keep hold of the Senate. This would drive a stake through the heart of Trump’s supposed agenda, not to mention any non-swamp nominations he may make.
And if the last two years are any indication, the cranky old man will continue blowing up bridges between him and the rest of the Republican Party from now until election day. So there’s a good chance he wouldn’t even have the support of Republican lawmakers to pursue any agenda.
On top of that, who in his right mind would work in his administration? With Trump’s track record of turning on the people he hires, why would anyone with vision and competence want to spend four years working for the old man who spends his nights tossing them under the bus in ALL CAPS posts on Truth Social?
Since Trump tends to attract grifters like a ship attracts barnacles, a second Trump administration would likely end up being staffed by dead-enders and hangers-on whose loyalty isn’t to the country but to Trump.
Donald Trump isn’t a coalition builder. It’s impossible to build a coalition of competent winners when you’re busy blowing up bridges while promoting candidates based solely on their devotion to you.
And I just don’t see Donald Trump changing course.
As the old saying goes, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
I’ve been America First long before Donald Trump rode down the escalator in Trump Tower in 2015.
I want to vote for someone who puts the country first — someone who wants an America First movement that doesn’t rely solely on one person to survive.
What Donald Trump has done since he lost the 2020 election has not instilled in me any sense of confidence that he is up to the job.
Everything Trump accomplished during his first three years as president has been undermined. Most of his successes came from Executive Orders, nearly all of which Biden rescinded. And because the Donald Trump of today is more focused on personal vendettas, I am doubtful an America First agenda is in the offing even if by some miracle he defeats Biden in 2024.
As someone who believes that this country’s only hope of survival is the complete and utter defeat of the Left, I’m not at all confident that a cranky, bitter old man on a mission of personal vengeance has much to offer.
Better Trump retires to Mar-a-Lago where he can indulge in his two favorite pastimes: playing golf and anger-posting on Truth Social in the wee hours of the morning while dressed in a MAGA hat, his BVDs, and a worn golf shirt.
Meanwhile, old senile Joe should hop on Marine One for one last flight to Delaware where he can spend the remainder of his days enjoying the company of the few working brain cells he has left.
But neither of these old men will retire unless we vote them into retirement.
The Democrats have to lose in 2024. And not just the decrepit old coot in the White House. We have to defeat Democrats everywhere — in Congress, state legislatures, district attorney’s offices, and governor’s mansions.
Victory over this Anti-American Death Cult is the only thing that matters to me in 2024.
Trump’s bruised ego doesn’t matter to me.
I owe no politician loyalty. And I never will.
My loyalty will always remain with the United States of America.
To defeat the Left and preserve this country, we must have a vibrant movement that does not depend on a single politician in his late 70s but grows and thrives long after all of the old men are dust.
