When will Zelensky be weaned?
The way the US Congress treats Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky reminds me of that scene in “Game of Thrones” where Lysa Arryn lets her 10-year-old son Robin suckle at her teat like an infant.
I confess, my face took on that “I’m sucking lemons” appearance when I saw that scene. Come to think of it, Lysa’s sister Catelyn Stark had the same “I’m sucking lemons” look on her face that I did.
It’s creepy and unhealthy to treat a son Robin’s age like he’s a helpless, squalling infant. Normal mothers would’ve weaned a 10-year-old nine years earlier.
Look, I get it. A lot of DC politicians have made out like bandits treating Ukraine like a two-dollar whore, extracting millions in shading investments from the country’s corrupt leaders. So there’s a bond.
And if they wanted to take some of their ill-gotten gains and send them back to Ukraine for aid, I’d have no problem with it.
But they’re spending money we don’t have by borrowing money we can’t pay back and saddling the country with even more debt so a country propped up by the West can keep fighting America’s proxy war with Russia.
Congressional leaders announced this week that they finalized a 4,150-page bill that will spend $1.7 trillion ostensibly to “fund the government” through the current fiscal year.
Included in this $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill is another $44.9 billion for Ukraine.
This bill is supposed to fund our government, not the corrupt government of Volodymyr Zelensky.
If this monstrosity passes (and it’s looking like it will), the US will have approved over $100 billion for Ukraine since Russia invaded.
Like Lysa Arryn, there is nothing Congress won’t do to accommodate their little boy.
In fact, as I write this, Zelensky is heading to Washington DC where Mommy Nancy Arryn Pelosi has invited him to address Congress.
Like little Robin Arryn, little Volodymyr is coming to sit on Congress’ lap and beg for the teat.
When Pelosi invited Zelensky to address a joint session of Congress, she told him, “The fight for Ukraine is the fight for democracy itself.”
Oh, please. Must that gin-soaked hag infuse her domestic propaganda into everything?
Zelensky doesn’t give a damn about “democracy.” Does Nancy not know that her little Volodymyr outlawed opposition parties for crap’s sake? What democracy does that?
Zelensky addressing a joint session of Congress like a freaking State of the Union Address to beg Congress to plunder the treasury on his behalf is just another slap in the face to every American who is struggling to pay their bills — especially as it is happening just as Congress is getting ready to spend another $1.7 trillion for a 4,150-page bill nobody will read.
If I were a Republican lawmaker attending tonight’s State of the Ukraine Address, I’d wheel in a copy of that monstrosity and sit there reading it while Zelensky is speaking. Then, when he finishes, I’d stand up, take the pages dealing with funding for Ukraine, and rip them in half, ala Pelosi.
Zelensky has said the war will not end until Russia vacates every bit of Ukraine, including Crimea, an area Russia has controlled since 2014.
There will be no negotiated peace, not when Volodymyr knows he can ask for another bundle of billions anytime he wants and Congress will happily turn on the tap.
Will there ever be a point when this country gets to pull Zelensky’s lips off the government teat and tell him he’s had enough?
I’m not confident that will ever happen, even after Republicans take over in the House.
After all, the only thing that stopped Robin Arryn from nursing at his mother’s breast was Petyr Baelish pushing her through the moon door.
Okay, the thought of shoving every member of Congress through the moon door and watching them plunge to their deaths does give me a warm feeling inside.
