DOJ's Latest Attempt to 'Get Trump' Face-Plants
Our joke of a justice department has run into another roadblock in its ridiculous crusade against Donald Trump over his alleged possession of classified documents. On Saturday, a federal judge spiked the DOJ’s request to hold Trump in contempt of court for supposedly not complying with the original subpoena that eventually led to the raid of his Mar-a-Lago home.
At the time, Trump had not yet assigned someone with the task of signing off on whether all the classified materials were returned or not. The DOJ wanted a sworn statement, and when they didn’t get it, they went nuclear. The judge in the case isn’t willing to do their dirty work for them, though, essentially telling the two sides to figure it out themselves.
Here’s the statement Trump’s lawyer gave on the matter.
“The President and his counsel will continue to be transparent and cooperative, even in the face of the highly weaponized and corrupt witch-hunt from the Department of Justice,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Hillary Clinton was allowed to delete and acid wash 33,000 emails after they were subpoenaed by Congress, yet absolutely nothing has happened to hold her accountable. If the Department of Justice can go after President Trump, they will surely come after any American who they disagree with.”
He’s not wrong. The fact that this is being handled in this manner is a sharp departure from how the DOJ has treated Democrats accused of similar things. Hillary Clinton is, of course, the most obvious example, never having had her home raided despite destroying evidence and illegally possessing classified documents. In the end, James Comey, the former, disgraced director of the FBI, gave a presser claiming that no reasonable prosecutor would pursue the issue.
Unfortunately, none of that really matters because we don’t live in a country where the rules apply equally. The biases of DOJ officials and prosecutors are out in the open, and no matter how many times their hypocrisies are laid bare, their strategy remains the same. In a way, the department is more dangerous and harmful than it’s ever been because any sense of shame has dissipated. There’s no one to hold these people accountable so what do they care if you see them bending the rules for their partisan aims?
And call me cynical, but I think the plan here is clear. The DOJ wants to indict Trump. We know that, and there’s no question they will at some point. But I also believe they want to time things to cause maximum damage to the Republican Party along the way. That would look like Trump cruising to the nomination only for the DOJ to drop charges on him just in time to ruin his chances at actually winning the general election.
Does anyone doubt Biden’s lackeys at the DOJ would do that? I didn’t think so.
