Kanye West Set to Buy Parler

Another day, another Kanye.

Kanye West (now known as ‘Ye’), has been making a lot of news lately, culminating with the reinstatement of the ban on his Twitter account after several antisemitic tweets and comments.

However, West is the walking definition of “you can’t cancel someone who refuses to be cancelled.” In response to Twitter’s latest move, the “College Dropout” rapper has put forward a plan to purchase conservative social media platform, Parler, according to MarketWatch.

Kanye West has agreed to acquire the right-wing social-media platform Parler, according to a statement by parent company Parlement Technologies on Monday. “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” West, who now goes by the name Ye, said in the statement. The deal “will change the world and change the way the world thinks about free speech,” said Parler CEO George Farmer. “Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again.” No financial terms were disclosed, although the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

After a particularly bizarre Twitter rant in which West said he wanted to do “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” fellow rich person Elon Musk claimed he spoke to the fashion mogul personally about the incident. Musk tweeted that he felt West took their conversation “to heart.” Now, with news of the Parler acquisition, one wonders if Musk, who will soon complete his own social media purchase with Twitter, also took the opportunity to plant a seed.

Parler announced the deal while simultaneously posting Kanye West’s official Parler account. As of the time of publication of this article, Parler’s site refuses to load, presumably because of an overwhelming amount traffic following West’s announcement.
