Democrats Roll out a Desperate Strategy to Deflect Blame for Their Failures

Bonchie reporting for RedState

Unless the goal is to receive backslaps from a sycophantic mainstream media, it’s not a good time to be a Democrat. Things have collapsed in ways that didn’t seem possible over the last six months. Sure, it was expected that the party in power would see some regression, but at this level?

Inflation continues to be a top concern among Americans, with January’s number clocking in at another multi-decade high. People are seeing their buying power eroded, and with gas prices set to explode further over the next year, there is no relief in sight. Meanwhile, Russia is on the verge of starting a major war in Europe, Afghanistan is now a terror state, the border is in shambles, and COVID-19 has killed more people under Joe Biden, with vaccines available, than under the previous president.

Yeah, things are bad, and when things are bad, desperation sets in among the party in power. That’s the theme of the latest strategy by Democrats to try to deflect blame for their failures. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) provided a perfect example on Friday of exactly what that looks like.

So, let me get this straight. Democrats control both branches of partisan government (Congress and the executive), yet it’s the job of Republicans to propose solutions for problems that the Democrats caused (and continue to cause)? To coin a Southern phrase, that dog won’t hunt. It’s not only insultingly nonsensical given the power dynamics, but it also absconds from the fact that Democrats won’t listen to anything Republicans suggest anyway.

Many in the GOP has continually begged Biden to limit his spending binge, going all the way back to the boondoggle American Rescue Plan, which was, by far, the biggest catalyst to the inflation boom we are seeing. Heck, even on gas prices, Republicans support more domestic production. What has been Biden’s response? He canceled the Keystone XL pipeline and cracked down on federal oil leases. So in the main, it’s not even true that Republicans haven’t offered solutions. They are just solutions that the Democrats don’t want to implement.

But when you’ve got nothing left, you’ve got nothing left, and the Democrats truly have nothing left. Nearly every move the Biden administration has made has been disastrous and counter-productive. And with the economy looking at a possible recession in the near future because of the coming interest rate hikes (which is the only measure left to fight the out of control inflation), things can certainly get even worse.

Admittedly, it’s nice to be on the other side of this for a change. Back in 2018, it was Republicans who were flailing about, seemingly unable to land a blow as electoral doom approached. That culminated in a blue wave that handed over control of the House to the Democrats, representing the first building block of their current total control of the government.

Democrats are about to learn the same, hard lesson. You cannot control the entire government and succeed in making an election about the minority party. It just doesn’t work, and Stabenow’s commentary only comes across as pathetic blame-shifting. In the end, Democrats own the results of the last year, and as the midterms get closer, that narrative will only solidify.
