Biden Says Stupid Crap About Subpoenas — Leaves Psaki and DOJ in Full Damage Control

Mike Miller reporting for RedState

Oops, he did it again. Clueless Joe™ demonstrated yet again why every member of his administration is terrified when he responds to questions from reporters. Our intrepid president told reporters Friday evening that anyone who defies a congressional subpoena should be prosecuted.

The remarks by the noted law enforcement expert came as Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Democrat-controlled Jan. 6 select commission is ramping up issuing subpoenas for Trump administration officials, as reported by Fox News, as well as others who may have information on Trump’s efforts to investigate claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Incidentally, as I reported on Friday, Mark Levin, host of Fox News/ “Life, Liberty & Levin,” blistered Pelosi and the Justice Department over the limited scope of the Jan. 6 commission, asking, “What did Pelosi know and when did she know it?” I wonder if Levin knows something we don’t know, gang.

So back to Corn Pop’s pal.

As noted by Fox, Biden told the usual gaggle of South Lawn reporters, “I hope the committee goes after them and holds them accountable,” referring to previous Trump officials and others who refuse to comply with a congressional subpoena.

But Joe wasn’t done being stupid.

One reporter followed up, asking: “Should they be prosecuted?”

Biden then went full-metal Biden: “I do, yes,” once again triggering White House alerts.

‘Code Joe! Code Joe! Code Joe!’ blared the White House and DOJ alarms.

“Dammit! How many times do we have to tell him to shut up and turn and walk the hell away?!,” cried one exasperated senior White House official.

OK, I made that last part up, but imagine the familiar panic. Here’s what DOJ spokesman Anthony Coley did say, in a  terse Friday night statement in response to Biden’s latest misstep, as transcribed by Fox:

“The Department of Justice will make its own independent decisions in all prosecutions based solely on the facts and the law. Period. Full stop.”

And Circle-Back Psaki? She hopped on Twitter and fired up the spin machine as fast as she could.

“As @potus has said many times, January 6th was one of the darkest days in our democracy. He supports the work of the committee and the independent role of the Department of Justice to make any decisions about prosecutions.”

Then why did he say stupid crap, Jenny-Jen P? Never mind.

As reported by Newsmax, the select committee plans a Tuesday vote on adopting a contempt of Congress report against Steve Bannon, a longtime adviser to the former president who has not complied with the committee’s subpoena.

Trump has urged former aides to refuse to cooperate, as well, citing executive privilege, which some legal experts dispute — and which Biden, of course, has refused to acknowledge.

If the committee approves the contempt case against Bannon, noted Newsmax, it will then go to a full House vote. From there, the Justice Department and overreaching Attorney General Merrick Garland would decide whether to pursue prosecution. (See: “DUH.”)

Former special counsel to the Department of Justice, Ryan Goodman gleefully posted the following tweet:

Bannon “in deep legal trouble … executive privilege would at best allow him to refuse to answer specific questions. The claim of executive privilege in no way shape or form allows a witness to refuse to show up at all”

Wait — the dreadful “no way shape or form”? Is that comparable to the equally ridiculous “from soup to nuts”? Sorry, I digress.

Joe Biden, America. Saying stupid crap at every self-created opportunity.
