The On Again/Off Again Journalistic Standards of Fredo Cuomo
Last night Fredo Cuomo picked up those journalistic standards he casually tossed aside when he aided and abetted CNN turning his brother into a matinee idol, and he’s wrapping them around himself like a Mexican serape.
The younger, dumber brother of Governor Andrew Cuomo opened his CNN nightly show by explaining why he simply cannot discuss his brother’s mounting scandals.
“Obviously I am aware of what’s going on with my brother,” Fredo explained. “And obviously I cannot cover it because he is my brother.”
Obviously Fredo thinks every American has a memory like a sieve.
Fredo uses journalistic standards and conflicts of interest the way his brother uses women.
When he needs them, he grabs them.
When he doesn’t, he casts them aside.
“Obviously” seems an odd word to use after spending the better part of 2020 yucking it up with brother Andrew week after week.
If it’s obvious, then why did he do it?
I know. Rhetorical question. We all know why he did it.
And we also know why he’s hiding behind journalistic standards now.
If Fredo felt journalistic standards made it obvious that he cannot cover his brother, he never would’ve conducted a single interview with him.
But the Cuomo Brother’s Pandemic Variety Hour wasn’t the first time Fredo interviewed his brother on CNN.
When Andrew Cuomo made it onto People Magazine’s Sexiest Men list in 2013, he called in to CNN’s New Day to discuss his good fortune with none other than brother Fredo.
“Obviously I cannot cover it because he is my brother” didn’t apply.
Nor did it apply in 2015 when a train derailed in New York. CNN’s New Day host Fredo Cuomo interviewed … his brother.
Obviously.
Journalistic standards aren’t steering this ship; humiliation and ass-covering are.
With his brother’s political fortunes imploding, Fredo is running for cover.
So is CNN come to think of it.
Fredo knows it. We know it. CNN knows it.
So CNN is doing what they always do – pretending their past involvement in propping up a crumbling public figure never ever happened.
They did it with Avenatti.
And they’re doing it with Andrew Cuomo.
This isn’t about Chris Cuomo’s “obvious” journalistic standards.
And only an idiot would believe that.
Which might explain why Brian Stelter was the one who tweeted out the clip.
