When Fact-Checkers become Lie-Excusers
For four years fact-checkers twisted themselves into knots to try and convince the country that Donald Trump always lied. These guys were so desperate to frame every word that came out of Trump’s mouth as a falsehood, they even fact-checked his jokes.
The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler kept a running tally of Trump’s supposed “lies.”
With the inauguration of Joe Biden, the Washington Post announced it would not be keeping a chronicle of all Biden’s lies.
Why would they?
Fact-checkers stop being fact-checkers when a Democrat is in the White House.
Instead, fact-checkers become lie-excusers.
Take yesterday’s CNN Townhall with President
Biden.
Biden told one hell of a flat-out, pants-on-fire lie that, had it been claimed by Donald Trump would’ve sent the fact-checkers into fits of apoplectic outrage.
According to Biden, before he came into office there wasn’t a COVID vaccine.
I mean, come on!
You don’t need to be a well-paid fact-checker for the Washington Post to know that is a gigantic, brazen lie.
If there was no vaccine before Biden came into office, how did over thirteen million Americans already get vaccinated?
If there was no vaccine before Biden came into office, how did BIDEN get vaccinated on December 21, 2020?
Did CNN host Anderson Cooper push back on this flagrant lie?
LOL! No.
And what about Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler?
A verbal stumble?
Oh, give me a break.
Did he stutter?
Did he verbally stumble over his words?
Let’s go to tape.
The only reason for a fact-checker to make excuses for this thermonuclear-level lie is because now, with a Democrat in the White House, fact-checkers have become lie-excusers.
With Biden, the job of the fact-checkers isn’t to call out the pants-on-fire lies; their job is to rush in with a fire extinguisher and put out the fire before we notice the smoke.
So they make excuses for him.
They do a little mind-reading and try and explain what he meant to say.
With Trump, they fact-checked his jokes for crap’s sake. No deliberate hyperbole was permitted to go unchallenged.
But Biden can flat-out lie through his teeth about significant things – like claiming the Trump Administration left no vaccination plan and they had to “start from scratch” or claiming there was no vaccine before they came into office – and these guys twist themselves into pretzels to make excuses for the lie.
In fact, when Kamala Harris regurgitated the lie that the Biden Administration had to “start from scratch” on the vaccine rollout, Glenn Kessler and CNN’s lie-excuser Daniel Dale said the sum total of nothing.
Axios, the outlet where Kamala made this egregious lie, initially fact-checked her in the tweet containing the video clip. But that tweet was quietly deleted and replaced with one that did not include the fact-check. No doubt the same Kamala handlers who took Vogue to the woodshed over their Kamala cover descended on Axios and demanded the fact-check be deleted.
“It’s more nuanced than that,” explain the same fact-checkers who fact-checked Trump’s jokes.
They really believe they can go back to the way they behaved when Obama was President – turning a blind eye to a litany of lies and bending over backwards to explain why the blatant lie we all heard isn’t a lie at all.
They can try. But it won’t work. Not after four years of nitpicking “fact-checks” over every utterance that came out of Trump’s mouth.
Do they really think we won’t notice the about-face?
Then again, fact-checkers have never really been fact-checkers.
They always were partisan activists hell-bent on advancing a narrative while protecting their preferred politicians.
Fact-checkers now work as the Biden Rapid Response Team – explaining away any flagrant lie as “nuanced” or “complicated” while attributing the lies to “verbal stumbles,” “gaffes,” or Biden’s so-called “stutter.”
Some people will be suckered in, no doubt.
The same people who believe with religious fervor that Donald Trump always lied will lap up these lie-excusers’ BS like big, dumb dogs.
Because at the end of the day, like the whole of the news media, fact-checking is all about confirming the narrative:
Trump was a Liar.
Biden is a return to Truth.
Which, in itself is a biggest pants-on-fire lie of all.
