House Dems Propose Incredibly Petty Bill Meant to Punish Trump, Despite Acquittals
Democrats are most definitely losing their minds over President Donald Trump.
They still can’t get him out of their heads. They completely failed at going after him on impeachment, twice. But they just can’t stop trying to throw things at him.
Even if those things are just ridiculous and probably unconstitutional.
Several lunatic Democrats led by Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) have introduced a bill called the “No Glory for Hate” Act. Literally proposed by people so consumed with hate for Trump that they still are going after him.
The purpose of the bill? To prohibit the use of federal funds for any commemoration of President Donald Trump and to snatch any benefits he’s entitled to as an ex-President.
“For years, Donald Trump poured gasoline on lies, encouraging racism and hatred, then lit the match on January 6th,” Sanchez said in a statement concerning the bill. “A president who has been impeached twice does not deserve the honours bestowed on a former president. We should never glorify the hatred Donald Trump personified as President. This bill ensures that there is no glory for hate, not a building, statue, or even a park bench.”
The bill forbids funds for commemorating any president who has “been twice impeached by the House” from being commemorated with any “symbol, monument, or statue” or having any building named after him, as well as forbidding any potential burial in Arlington National Cemetery. They put “twice” in so they could still honor Bill Clinton, just unbelievable how juvenile they can be.
They’re also trying to snatch any of the benefits he gets as a former president.
Notwithstanding any provision of the Act entitled “An Act to
provide retirement, clerical assistants, and free mailing privileges to
former Presidents of the United States, and for other purposes”,
approved August 25, 1958 (3 U.S.C. 102 note; commonly known as the
“Former Presidents Act of 1958”), any former President that has been
twice impeached by the House of Representatives on or before the date
of enactment of this Act or has been convicted of a State or Federal
crime relating to actions taken in an official capacity as President of
the United States is not entitled to receive any benefit, other than
Secret Service protection, under such Act.
That means they want to grab any retirement benefits that he would get for being president.
This is the petty nonsense they’re pushing rather than actually addressing things like opening schools and businesses, as well as finally putting through the stimulus bill on which many Americans are waiting.
There are also multiple problems with this potentially including that they’re essentially punishing someone who was acquitted. An impeachment is not a conviction.
On top of that one could make the point that this is a bill of attainder, that it’s a bill specifically directed at punishing one person not only without judicial trial, but in the face of impeachment acquittals. That would be constitutionally prohibited. The argument against that would be that they’re talking about use of federal funds and that Trump doesn’t have a “right” to be commemorated. He already doesn’t qualify for Arlington having never served in the military. But he most certainly does under present law have the right to presidential benefits that are accorded to other presidents. So apparently the people involved in the bill are not only petty but have very little understanding of the law or the particular facts.
But this is “unity,” right?
