Rabid Leftists Try To Cancel Eric Clapton Because 2020 Isn’t Over Yet

It appears that singer and songwriter Eric Clapton managed to get himself a starring role in the latest episode of “Who’s Canceled Now?”

Far-leftists honed in on Clapton on Friday after it was announced that he and Van Morrison would be releasing an anti-lockdown song titled “Stand and Deliver” on Dec. 4. The song, which was written by Morrison and performed by Clapton, seems to be arguing against government locked downs ostensibly designed to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the announcement, progressives did what they do best: researched reasons to cancel Clapton. Fox News reported:

“However, countless others on social media took chose to take umbrage with racially insensitive comments Clapton made years ago while addressing a crowd during a show in Birmingham, England in August 1976.”

Now, to be fair, Clapton’s remarks were all kinds of racist. During the performance, he launched into a rant that might have made David Duke blush.

“Stop Britain from becoming a Black colony. Get the wogs out. Get the coons out. Keep Britain white,” he said. “The Black wogs and coons and Arabs and f—king Jamaicans don’t belong here, we don’t want them here.”

Singer-songwriter Deren Ney was the individual responsible for unearthing the old remarks, saying that “all of [Clapton’s] racism wouldn’t fit in one screenshot.”

But we all know the real reason why far-leftists even bothered to dig up racist remarks that were made before I was even born, don’t we?

Clapton gave a statement to Variety on Friday in which he lamented the absence of live music events, calling it “deeply upsetting.”

“There are many of us who support Van and his endeavors to save live music; he is an inspiration,” Clapton said. “We must stand up and be counted because we need to find a way out of this mess. The alternative is not worth thinking about. Live music might never recover.”

Van Morrison praised Clapton for performing the song in a statement.

“Eric’s recording is fantastic and will clearly resonate with the many who share our frustrations,” said Morrison. “It is heartbreaking to see so many talented musicians lack any meaningful support from the government, but we want to reassure them that we are working hard every day to lobby for the return of live music, and to save our industry.”

It’s easy to see what is going on here, isn’t it? Progressives didn’t like the fact that Clapton is vocally opposing lockdown orders, but since they are too intellectually lazy to argue against him, they dug up racist comments that he made before I was a dirty thought in my father’s mind, which is why I can’t take it seriously.

Sensible people know better than to judge someone on remarks they made decades ago. Sure, his comments were racist, but are we to believe that Clapton hasn’t changed since then? I mean, look at this music video where he collaborated with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, a black musical legend.

See? Does it look like Clapton carries any animus towards Babyface? Of course not. They’re just jamming along to one of the coolest songs from the ‘90s.

In all seriousness, progressives are going to have to do better than this if they wish to cancel someone for comments they made in the 1970s. At this point, nobody cares anymore.

In fact, even the leftists whining about it don’t care either. This is the usual kabuki theater performance that far-leftists put on when they want to virtue signal to show their comrades how much they dislike racism and stuff.

But the real question is: Who will the far-leftists choose to star in the next episode?
