Delay Is the Name of Left's New High Court Game
You will excuse us for being extremely skeptical regarding U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s purported deathbed request. She supposedly told a relative, "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."
The Left believes its sacrilege not to adhere to Ginsburg’s request to the letter.
What no one mentions is that if the same old president — Donald Trump — is re-elected, then the seat would remain vacant for almost five years.
There are two problems with this.
When Ginsburg was alive she had the power to make her personal preferences into law and frequently that’s just what she did.
She is not alive now. Her personal preferences no longer count.
Second, the seat isn’t hers to bequeath to anyone, much less a "new president."
The chair belongs to the people of the United States, thus the president they’ve already elected can and should fill it.
Besides this whole "deathbed request" sounds suspiciously to us like the mysterious interview reporter Bob Woodward supposedly conducted with former CIA Director William Casey as he lay on his deathbed in a heavily guarded hospital room.
And wouldn’t you know it, the famously close–mouthed, longtime confidant of President Reagan "confessed" to knowing about the details of the Iran-Contra scandal.
The implication being that the Reagan administration had known all about it from the beginning.
No one with any knowledge of the reality of CIA and hospital security believes the "confession" occurred, just as current observers believe the Ginsburg wish is another fantasy.
But quite coincidentally, just like the Casey "confession," the Ginsburg wish advances the interests of the Left.
The left’s goal is to delay confirmation of a new Supreme Court justice until after the November election. Anything that will create delay is good.
ABC News has described the decision for Ginsburg to lie in state in front of the court as "unprecedented." She will lie "inside the Great Hall where the casket will be placed on the Lincoln Catafalque."
The ceremony then moved to Statuary Hall in the Capitol. Finally ending last weekend.
We're sure if the Left could have found a way to make the pre-burial events last a month they would have.
After all, it would have been unseemly to rush a confirmation while former Justice Ginsburg was still lying in state.
We predict the next delaying tactic will be a demand for an FBI investigation of nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s background.
The precedent of an FBI investigation before a vote to confirm was established during the Judge Brett Kavanaugh confirmation circus and who knows? Amy might have met Brett during college.
The only reasonable response to leftist delaying tactics is a swift, public vote on Barrett’s confirmation as soon as the law and U.S. Senate rules will allow.
