Are We All Socialists Yet?

The vast majority of Americans favor capitalism. Only a small minority favor Socialism. Indeed, even many Democrats claim they don’t like socialism and are not socialists, but they do like paying more and more taxes for more and more poorly run government programs. They often argue, for example, that socialized medicine is not socialism any more than socialized schools, fire departments, police, or roads are socialism and they are correct. No single socialist institution makes an entire country or economy socialist. However, this is a logical fallacy known as the fallacy of the beard. If a man skips a day of shaving, does his 5 o’clock shadow constitute a beard? Most would say “no”. What if he skips shaving for 2 days? 3, 4, or 7 days? Even though we cannot identify a definable point between a completely shaved clean face and a fully grown beard does not mean we can never have a beard.  At some point, the man’s facial hair constitutes a beard.

Identifying the exact moment when facial stubble will transition to a full beard is not productive. Neither is identifying which elements of our economy transitioning to government control will cause us to finally be socialists.  However, the only way to prevent a beard if you don’t want one is the forceful removal of the facial hair that will one day become a beard. This is typically done by the daily (or routine) exercise of using a highly sharpened tool to cut back the hair as close to the face as possible.  Claiming yourself to be a woman who can’t grow a beard, while in fact being a biological male may convince half the country you can’t grow a beard, but those with common sense understand that you will still grow a beard despite your empty protestations.  Similarly, protesting that having socialized medicine doesn’t make us socialists may be technically true, it does lead us down a path where we could wake up one day to a very hairy situation.

Chris Matthews recently said of socialism:

“I have my views on the word ‘socialist,’ and I’ll be glad to share them with you in private and they go back to the early 1950s. I have an attitude about them, I remember the Cold War, I have an attitude toward Castro,” Matthews contined. “I believe if Castro and the reds had won the Cold War there would have been executions in Central Park and I might have been one of the ones getting executed and certain other people would be there cheering, OK?”

In this WND article, even hyper-partisan, über-liberal Chris “tingle up my leg” Matthews eschews the Democrat party who have embraced the nut bags who claim they want socialism, who have flirted with socialists, even embraced them and welcomed them under the tent for 1 and only 1 purpose. They crave power and demand power over you. However, the socialists have invaded the Democratic party and, though they are a minority faction in that party, they have become the most vocal. Without these socialists, though, the Democrat party would become nothing other than a permanent political minority. With them, they may maintain power in the near term, but they are heading for permanent minority status anyway. They are merely postponing the politically inevitable. Reading the tea leaves, turnout for 11/2020 Democrats looks to be abysmal and Pelosi has so damaged her brand with impeachment, even the down-ballot for most of America is in play. So here’s the final question: Democrats, you have a pestilence-infested beard. Oh, it may or may not be a full beard, but either way, if you do nothing, it will consume the host eventually. Are you ready to do a little man-scaping?
