Des Moines Register to the rescue!

With Elizabeth Warren cratering in the polls, the Des Moines Register rushes in to endorse her (with a caveat).

Well, it looks like I need to repurpose my Kamala
Coyote-off-the-cliff” image for Elizabeth Warren.

Because now it’s Liz who is plummeting in the polls.

Despite that heap big boost CNN gave Liz in the last debate, Warren has been unable to exploit it for her benefit.

In fact, it looks like it backfired on her completely.

Not surprising, really.  Warren is a dreadful candidate no matter how much the media colludes with her campaign.

Although the news media might want Elizabeth Warren to be the 2020 Democrat nominee, it doesn’t seem Democrat voters do.

To add insult to injury, after the CNN/Warren Campaign set-up fell flat, Liz was forced to share the New York Times’ endorsement with Amy Klobuchar.

The gal just can’t catch a break.  I’m guessing she hasn’t felt so wronged since the time she wasn’t fired for being visibly pregnant.

Luckily for Liz Warren, the Des Moines Register is the latest member of our discredited news media to rush to her rescue.

Yesterday, the Des Moines Register editorial board endorsed the serial liar in the Iowa Caucus.

This sentence in their endorsement made me laugh out loud:

The outstanding caliber of Democratic candidates makes it difficult to choose just one.

Hahahahahahahahaha!!

Sure, Jan.

If the Des Moines Register wants this endorsement to be taken seriously, that’s probably not the way to do it.

I get it.  It isn’t like they can say “None of these guys has a chance against Trump.  But we have to endorse somebody.”

Even in endorsing Warren, the Des Moines Register is forced to admit her pie-in-the-sky promises are untenable.

A qualification: Some of her ideas for “big, structural change” go too far. This board could not endorse the wholesale overhaul of corporate governance or cumulative levels of taxation she proposes. While the board has long supported single-payer health insurance, it believes a gradual transition is the more realistic approach. But Warren is pushing in the right direction.

Which, when you get right down to it, is really just a long-winded way of saying, “None of these guys has a chance against Trump.  But we have to endorse somebody.”

It’s worth remembering that in 2016, the Des Moines Register endorsed Marco Rubio in the Iowa Republican Caucus.

Rubio came in third behind Ted Cruz and Donald Trump.

If Iowa polling is anywhere near accurate, Elizabeth Warren is currently in fourth place behind the three B’s – Bernie and Biden and Buttigieg.

(Oh my!)

Even in Warren’s own backyard of New Hampshire, she is clinging to fourth place behind the three B’s.

In fact, reviewing the recent state polls featured by @Politics_Polls on Twitter, the best polling Warren can muster is a very, very distant third.

Which is probably why the Des Moines Register is rushing to her rescue.

I get it.  Nobody in the Democrat establishment (and that includes the news media) wants Bernie Sanders to get the nomination.

Likewise, despite running interference for Joe Biden over his and his family’s years of corruption, the establishment knows that Biden is damaged goods.

So who else is there to endorse?

Buttigieg is too young and inexperienced.  Klobuchar won’t excite the radical base.  Ditto Bloomberg.

Elizabeth Warren is the only candidate left for them to endorse.

But it just won’t matter.

Truth is, even Democrat voters are now wise to the fact that the “unbiased” news media wants to place its thumb on the scale for a particular candidate.  And when voters don’t trust the media, no amount of thumbs on the scale by way of newspaper endorsements will make a damn bit of difference.
