House Candidate Chris Banweg: 'We're Not Bleeding Russia in Ukraine - We're Bleeding'

Neil W. McCabe reporting for RedState

The America First Marine combat veteran running to represent Ohio-13 in Congress told RedState he is doing so because of national security threats facing the country.

“A lot of the work I've done overseas is partnering with and working with other entities to support their nation or defeat our enemies,” said Christopher Banweg, who continues to serve as a colonel in the Marine Reserve.

“When we use these lines like: ‘We're bleeding Russia with Ukraine at the expense of $160 billion, we're not bleeding Russia. We’re bleeding,” said the Hudson, Ohio, city councilman.

Banweg said his specialty has been in military-political and government stabilization operations. “I'd been focused on counterinsurgency through civil affairs and intelligence work for the last probably 20 years,” he said.

“To keep it simple, it's not if we should be there; it's how we should be there. We should not be bankrupting ourselves. There's a better way,” said the Akron, Ohio, native, whose father was born in an Austrian refugee camp. His paternal grandfather was there with his wife after he escaped a Communist work camp in Yugoslavia.

Banweg said the U.S. government granted his grandparents refugee status.

"They came over on a U.S. Navy ship with three wooden boxes and started life, so I joined the Marine Corps because growing up, I had a really good appreciation of what lived outside of our nation's borders," he said.

The colonel said he had two deployments to Afghanistan, and the third was with a Marine Raider-led combined joint special operation task force out of Baghdad with missions throughout the Middle East.

Banweg said a leader in the state legislature asked him to run in Ohio-13, challenging Democrat Rep. Emilia Sykes, but he demurred. The district is like a north-south column that sits roughly 20 miles south of Cleveland, includes all of Akron, and runs all the way down Route 77 to Canton—home of the NFL Hall of Fame.

“She asked me to pray and reflect on it, so I asked my wife and my kids, and I said: ‘Hey, we're being asked to do this,’ this is not something I aspire to,” he said.

After three overseas tours, the family was not enthused, he said. “Their initial response was: ‘No, you've been gone too much. We want you home—they had said no, and they came back a couple days later and said: ‘You need to do this.’”

Banweg said when he takes office in January 2025, he has his eyes on two primary problems: first China and then federal spending and inflation.

“It's not just direct competition with China,” he said. “Unfair trade, undermining our economy, pumping the sources of fentanyl into the borders.”

The city councilman said China will not be satisfied until they have destabilized the world and America’s place in the world.

"That affects the global economy, which trickles down to our domestic economy, so there's a whole bag of challenges with China," he said. "China's not a competitor, they're an adversary."

Banweg said the damage federal spending and inflation have done to the economy are also a national security threat.

“The way we're managing our budget — inflation, overspending — guts out the strength that we have as a nation to be able to go to or support national defense,” he said.

Vance endorses Banweg for Ohio-13

The combat veteran also received a key endorsement from fellow Marine Ohio Republican Sen. JD Vance.

“As a businessman and battle-tested leader, Chris Banweg will be someone I trust to get things done northeast Ohio,” Vance said.

"I am endorsing Chris because America needs fighters who deliver policies that cut inflation, secure our borders, and deliver high-quality jobs for Ohio families. I am glad to see him taking on this challenge," the senator said.

Banweg said Vance’s endorsement is a validation of his approach to the campaign.

“I'll say that DC and our nation's trajectory won't change if we keep electing the same people,” he said. “I'm proud to have JD Vance's endorsement as another outsider who could see that what got us here into this mess won't get us out.”

Vance and President Donald J. Trump are on the same frequency, he said.

“It’s the same thing President Trump would say,” he said. “It's the same place he is with policy, is the career politicians have lost their way, lost connection with the average voter, with the working family, and it shows up in our policies.”

Banweg said he is a strong supporter of Trump because he wants Trump's policies back.

“When I look at this as an American between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, it is clear that from the Middle East to the cost of a box of Cheerios, our nation under Donald Trump was better off,” said the colonel, who was commissioned in 2000 out of the University of Illinois ROTC program. “You can take that to any of the indicators domestically or internationally.”

Banweg said he supported Trump from the beginning. “I will tell you, when I look at the election in 2024, I mean clearly some people don't like the way Donald Trump says things, but he's going to be the Republican nominee,” he said. “Trump led since Day One in the primary, and that's about to get wrapped up.”

The colonel also said it is essential to understand that Democrats may not contest Ohio as a top-tier battleground state, but Ohio is not so much a Republican state but actually a Trump state.

“I think the reason people in Ohio support Trump and relate to President Trump more than they do the Republican Party in general is because of his positions,” he said.

“His policies were about the American working family, and we've had different monikers — Make America Great, Keep America Great — but at the end of the day, it's about taking care of working people,” he said.

“It's the same thing that when they asked me to run,” he said. “The only reason I'm running is the American working family deserves a fair shot. Less and less Americans today have a shot at the American dream.”

A flippable seat?

In the 2022 cycle, Republican Madison Gesiotto Gilbert, an attorney and former Miss Ohio USA, challenged Sykes but fell short with 47 percent of the vote to the Democrat's 53 percent. Banweg announced his campaign after Gilbert took a job as a Republican National Committee spokeswoman rather than take another shot at Sykes.

A national conservative operative active in MAGA campaigns and with a working knowledge of the Ohio-13 race told RedState although it is a majority Democratic district, it is within grasp.

“Look, it’s definitely a flip,” the operative said. “We could flip it, and I don't know if it's D-plus five, but it's one of those, where if we flipped the narrative nationally, that it is the type of race you've got to win.”

The operative said that Trump supporters have to learn the lessons from the 2022 cycle when the Republican establishment did not support MAGA-aligned nominees in the general election.

"I think it's one of these things where: 'Are you going to make the same mistakes over again?'"

DAG Says the Quiet Part Out Loud – DOJ is Operating with No Oversight

Most will not see the forest through the trees.  I have shortened this longer interview with Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, to emphasize a point.

Monaco is one of the extreme control operatives from the Obama era who transferred intentionally into the Biden administration to continue control operations.  Monaco is literally one of the consequential DC administrators responsible for maintaining a well-honed and weaponized Dept of Justice.  That’s all she does; organizing and keeping the Main Justice targeting mechanism focused on their priority is her job.

In this interview segment, transcript provided below, DAG Lisa Monaco outlines the importance of keeping a corrupt system isolated so that only the corrupt officials within it have reign.  Of course, that’s not the exact context of her comments, but when combined with the actual reality of the effort – that’s the cornerstone of the non-pretending message.  WATCH:

[Transcript] – […] THOMAS: I’m going to ask a couple questions that I hope get to transparency, understanding the limits that you have to operate within. Can you assure the American public that Special Counsels Jack Smith and David Weiss, Robert Hur are operating without regard to anything but the facts and the law?

MONACO: Yes. And the reason I say that, Pierre, is, look, these are matters of the utmost importance and significance. Cases of that level of significance are — it’s exceptionally important that they are handled independently, confidentially and free of any outside or inappropriate influence. And that’s exactly why the attorney general appointed special counsels in the first place.

THOMAS: Just for the record, so the public can hear it from a top official at DOJ, has President Biden ever raised the classified documents investigation, the probe of Hunter Biden with you or the A.G., tried to influence you? Has he ever done that in regard to President Trump?

MONACO: No. And the attorney general’s been exceptionally clear on this point. (more)

Outcomes are determined by controlling inputs.

Want a specific outcome?  You must control all the inputs.

In this situation, “free of any outside influence” means retaining the silo of benefit.

She’s saying the quiet part, without people really understanding how the quiet part is constructed right in front of our faces.

Iran Threatens to Close the Mediterranean Sea to Commerce

streiff reporting for RedState

A senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general has threatened to close the Straits of Gibraltar to traffic if the US continues to support Israel's crusade to root out the terrorists in Gaza.

“They shall soon await the closure of the Mediterranean Sea, [the Strait of] Gibraltar and other waterways,” Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi, a senior member of the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said today.

The general did not explain how Iran, which does not border the Mediterranean, intended to make good on its threat.

This threat should not come as a shock to anyone after the flaccid US and EU response to the Houthis in Yemen, an Iranian proxy, effectively closing the Red Sea and, by extension, the Suez Canal to commercial traffic. With two carrier strike groups in the area of operations, the US has stood idly by while drones and missiles attacked neutral shipping, and two ships were hijacked. Since then, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the formation of an allegedly international coalition to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Red Sea; see Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Expected to Announce International Coalition to Protect Red Sea Shipping. When that coalition was announced, it became apparent that it was not a serious effort; see The New Red Sea Naval Coalition Is Pure Biden: Weak, Ineffectual, and Designed to Encourage our Enemies. Since then, the coalition has disintegrated (Biden's Plan to Safeguard Red Sea Trade From Houthis May Match Afghanistan in Incompetence) until it consists of two US Navy destroyers and two allied frigates (Red Sea Security Coalition Melts Down As Member Nations Refuse to Accept US Leadership. The primary reason for the failure of the coalition to materialize is that allied nations have made it clear that they will not place their ships under US command.

As I've noted several times (for instance, Major Shipping Lines Avoid Red Sea; Is It Just the Houthis or Should We Be Looking Deeper?), we need to look at the closure of the Red Sea as something bigger than the Houthis acting out in response to Israel kicking terrorist ass in Gaza. This is a test run of closing maritime chokepoints.

Even though the Houthis claim they are targeting ships owned by Israeli interests or sailing for Israeli ports, that claim doesn't appear to match reality. The real objective appears to be a test run on shutting down two of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints. Without access to both ends of the Red Sea, a large portion of the world's shipping will be routed around South Africa, resulting in price increases and disrupted supply chains.

Credit: Port Economics, Management and Policy

Iran and its Houthi proxy have effectively shut down one entrance of the Mediterranean. It appears that Iran has launched at least one strike against a merchant ship in the Arabian Sea on the sea lane used to enter the Red Sea.

So, how would Iran shut down trans-Mediterranean commerce? The obvious answer is they would operate out of Libya and use drones or possibly mobile anti-ship missiles. The Libyan government has been touting improved relations with Iran, and the IRGC has the skills to operate independently. Attacks could be launched from clandestine Iranian bases aboard ships at sea. One such ship, the MV Beshad, is working in the Red Sea. It is believed to have had a role in the hijacking of the Galaxy Leader; see BREAKING: Iranian Proxies Hijack Israeli-Owned Ship in International Waters. In 1987, Iranian ships mining the Persian Gulf led to escorting ships (Operation Earnest Will) and our brief naval war with Iran (Operation Praying Mantis). The Straits of Gibraltar are very vulnerable to a clandestine mining operation. (Thanks to "Louise1" in the comments for jogging my memory about mines.)

The car carrier Galaxy Leader was seized by Yemen’s Houthi rebels after it steamed past an Iranian “spy ship” with its AIS switched off, according to tanker tracking groups.

The Behshad is registered as a cargo vessel but is believed to be gathering intelligence for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb strait that controls access to the Red Sea and Suez Canal, according to Dryad Global.

The uppermost red dot on this map indicates its location.

We need to wake up to the fact that the weakness of Biden's national security team, particularly the clowns on the National Security Council, has created a very hazardous situation for the free world. A trade route carrying over ten percent of the world's maritime traffic has been shut down. The cost of diverting around the Cape of Good Hope will add about $1 million and about 12 days per round trip. The weakness and vacillation demonstrated here will encourage similar activities elsewhere. This will last until the US can sort itself out again and step back from sucking up to the Iranians for reasons that are, at best, opaque or until another maritime power steps in to protect shipping.

Italian Same-Sex Nativity Scenes Labeled 'Blasphemous'

Nativity scenes showing same-sex partners with the baby Jesus are being called "blasphemous" by conservative Catholics and local politicians in Italy.

In Capocastello di Mercogliano, about an hour's drive east of Naples, a church nativity scene features two mothers instead of Mary and Joseph.

The Rev. Vitaliano Della Sala, the priest at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, is known locally for sympathizing with LGBT and left-wing causes. He said the same-sex nativity scene is in line with the edict of Pope Francis, who last week allowed priests to bless same-sex couples.

"I wanted to show with this scene that families are no longer just the traditional ones," Della Sala told Reuters.

"In our parishes we see more and more children from the new types of families that exist and are part of our society, children of separated and divorced people, gay couples, single people, young mothers."

Sen. Maurizio Gasparri, a member of the co-ruling Forza Italia party, said the LGBT nativity scene "offends all those who always had respect and devotion for the Holy Family."

Italy’s Pro-Life and Family (Pro-Vita e Famiglia) group called the display "dangerous, as well as shameful and blasphemous.”

The group launched an online petition — which so far has attracted more than 21,000 signatories — calling on the bishop of Avellino to intervene.

Pro-Vita said the nativity scene contradicted the church's teachings on the family, and legitimized same-sex parenting and surrogacy.

Having children through surrogacy is illegal in Italy. Parliament is discussing a government-sponsored law that would criminalize couples who go abroad to undertake the practice.

In Rome on Sunday, a same-sex-nativity scene with two Virgin Marys appeared on Pro-Vita’s headquarters, ANSA reported.

The work, created by Italian street artist and activist Laika, shows Jesus wrapped in a rainbow-flag blanket. The scene was on a poster and was pasted onto the shutters of the headquarters' building.

Laika also put up a poster showing St. Joseph working as a carpenter on the "coffin of the patriarchy," ANSA reported.

Happy Two-Year Anniversary to the 'Most Legendary' of All 'Let's Go, Brandon' Trolling Moments

Sister Toldjah reporting for RedState

We don't see too many stories about the "Let's Go, Brandon" chant anymore, perhaps because despite the mainstream media's best efforts, not much sympathy could be ginned up for a POTUS who was being subjected to just a smidgeon of what former President Donald Trump had to deal with from his critics on a day to day basis during his four years in office.

But we couldn't let Christmas Eve 2023 pass by without posting a reminder of the second anniversary of what my RedState colleague Nick Arama called at the time "maybe the most legendary 'Let's go, Brandon' troll yet" - the infamous moment during Joe and Jill Biden's call to NORAD when a caller uttered the slogan to Joe Biden, only to have Biden cluelessly repeat it to him, apparently not knowing the phrase was slang for "F*** Joe Biden":

At the end of an otherwise cordial call with a father of four from Oregon, President Biden said, “I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.”

“I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas as well,” replied the caller, later identified as Jared Schmeck, a Trump supporter. He added: “Merry Christmas and ‘Let’s go, Brandon!’”

Biden responded by saying, "Let's go Brandon, I agree" as Jill Biden looked on.

For a refresher on how the call went down, watch:

Even more hilariously, the pool report on the phone call had a notation from a reporter on how they (the media) were looking into "why this happened":

Potus again reminded kids to be in bed by 9:00

Jared, the dad, said merry Christmas and Let's Go Brandon. (We are trying to get more on why this happened)

Potus did not react to the apparent slight, let it slide right by.

In the aftermath, the MSM and Democrats went nuts, with the man on the call, Jared Schmeck, being vilified and facing threats to himself and his business for what amounted to a harmless joke at Biden's expense.

MSNBC's Nicole Wallace even went so far as to suggest that Schmeck's "slur" to Joe Biden was not just about expressing displeasure with the POTUS. It was, in her unhinged worldview, a sinister way of fomenting the next so-called “insurrection” in a “slow-motion” sort of way.

As we previously reported, “Let’s go, Brandon” originated after a NASCAR race in October 2021 that saw driver Brandon Brown take the checkered flag. As he was being interviewed, “F*** Joe Biden” chants were heard in the background.

The reporter interviewing him laughably suggested that the fans in attendance were chanting “Let’s go, Brandon,” even though it was obvious from the clip (seen below) that they were chanting something else.

Watch:

And the rest, as they say, is history...

Joe & Jill Ask for People's New Year's Resolutions and the Responses Were Lit

Sister Toldjah reporting for RedState

Well, it's that time of year again when the American people are being subjected to more than just the usual cringe-inducing run-of-the-mill public appearances from the First Family.

Because we have back-to-back national holidays, with Thanksgiving in November and Christmas a month later in December, we get to see our fearless leader, Joe Biden, with his Handler-in-Chief, Jill Biden, doing the turkey pardoning thing, attending Christmas tree lighting ceremonies, and putting on big (awkward) shows of being connected with the NORAD team that is "tracking" Santa.

Though it wasn't a public appearance, a tweet posted to Joe Biden's POTUS Twitter account Saturday on New Year's resolutions has certainly gotten people talking over the weekend.

In it, the Bidens ask people what their resolutions are for the new year.

"As Jill and I think about our New Year's resolutions, we'd love to hear yours," it read. "Text me yours at (302) 404-0880."

First of all, it is obviously a ploy to get people's phone numbers so they can be put on text notification lists not just for the Democratic party but for their affiliated special interest groups. Pretty standard operating procedure for a lot of politicians, which hopefully most people reading the tweet understood.

But beyond that, I can't think of many more ways the Biden team can be more tone-deaf than this, at a time when people are continuing to struggle under the "leadership" of Joe Biden, with the economy, inflation, and cost of living issues ranking as their top concerns heading into 2024, and Biden's approval ratings being reflective of that.

Not surprisingly, the tweet was ratioed as people had thoughts in response to what the Bidens were requesting:

One person did text them with a hilarious message about a kiss, and got this response:

Biden's request had both the left and right responding with equal fervor, with the prevailing sentiment on the right being for him to either resign or be defeated in November and the anti-Israel leftists demanding a "ceasefire" and calling for a "free Palestine."

Outside of defeating him next year, my resolutions have little to do with Joe and Jill nor anyone else in the Biden family. They have everything to do with concentrating on my own family and life, praying more and worrying less, and learning how to live in the moment and not sweat the small stuff.

As for our readers, what's your answer to Biden's question? Make sure to leave it in the comments.

Kamala Harris Gets Dragged for Christmas Eve Post

Bonchie reporting for RedState

The lengths to which Democrats will go to toe the progressive line never ceases to amaze. Things like tradition and normalcy are not only cast aside but are treated as if they never existed in the first place. Vice President Kamala Harris, ever the producer of awkward public proclamations, illustrated that dynamic perfectly on Sunday evening.

It wasn't just any Sunday evening, of course. Rather, it was December 24th, otherwise known to essentially all human beings as Christmas Eve. Well, unless you're Kamala Harris. Then it's some mishmash of holidays that shall not be named.

I despise this trend so much, not because I have no tolerance for people who celebrate other holidays during the Christmas season, but because the assumption being presented by Harris is that merely acknowledging the existence of Christmas is somehow offensive. December 24th is not some random day in December, and she is not posing in front of some random tree. We all know what she's celebrating, so how hard is it to just say, "Merry Christmas?"

I get that some will say I'm overreacting. They'll say this is a small thing and that saying "happy holidays" is not a big deal. On some level, I might agree, but not on this one. Frankly, I'm just worn out with the far-left destruction of American tradition, to the point where a nation founded by Christians has leaders who are scared to say the word Christmas in public lest they exclude some laundry list of other religions.

I understand there are people in the country who don't celebrate Christmas other than as a commercial affair (or not at all). Why is it up to Christians, though, to forgo the mention of the birth of Jesus Christ by pretending the millennia-old Christmas season is actually some nebulous "holiday" season?

So when I see someone like Harris playing into that, desperately trying not to mention the word Christmas even as she poses in front of a Christmas tree, I'm left thinking about how ridiculous we've become as a society. I wasn't the only one thinking that either. Underneath her post are hundreds of replies pointing out the same thing.

All of this plays into a broader feeling among Americans that the things they hold dear are being destroyed. Whether it's pro-Hamas protesters shutting down a tree-lighting ceremony or climate protesters shutting down a highway, people have had enough. What might seem like a small slight by Harris in her post is just a symptom of a broader national sickness and one that is getting worse.

Rebels for Christ

An unjust law is no law at all, and the more that injustice becomes the law of the land, the more likely that chaos comes, too.  Why?  Because injustice begets more injustice.  Most humans have an antenna that can distinguish right from wrong, but most humans also ignore this antenna to their detriment.  It is far easier to accept the world as it is — even when it is drenched in depravity — than to rebel against majority opinion.  It is far safer to stay silent in the sight of outrageous sin than to stand alone and say, “This is wrong.”  As everyday wrongs pile up high, though, human antennae — even ones that have gone unused for too long — begin to twitch uncontrollably.  Why are so many people today afflicted by sadness?  Because sins are a heavy burden to carry.  The mountains of evil rising in our world torment every soul.  And only by actively fighting the resulting chaos can we hope to one day find salvation.

That idea — that the struggle against evil is worth any cost — is easier said than done.  How can the actions of any one person make any meaningful difference?  As Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, it seems more logical to ask: how can any person dedicated to making a difference ultimately not succeed?  Christ came to Earth to seed a message of hope and redemption and died for our sins.  His disciples spread that message across the world, suffering torture and death, so that we might live.  Christians have been persecuted, imprisoned, and slaughtered ever since, so that we might be saved.  Next to their sacrifices, our hardships pale.

I admit that there is a rebellious streak in me.  I am fond of rule-breakers who stand unafraid against evil.  Rebellion for rebellion’s sake can be just as detrimental as injustice.  Yet rebellion against injustice so that one may remain obedient to God is surely righteous.  And when you say it out loud in that way — will you choose man’s laws or God’s? — the answer is obvious.  So, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for God’s devout and indefatigable troublemakers.

As evidence that any one of us can make a difference in the fight against evil, I want to recognize the efforts of Bible smugglers around the world.  Did you know that men and women routinely risk imprisonment and execution by secretly delivering God’s Word to populations forbidden from receiving Christ’s message?  Just as the apostles did two thousand years ago, followers of Christ still risk life and limb to spread His message today.  In fact, the last century has been a busy one for God’s smugglers.  They have navigated the Soviet Union’s Iron Curtain, the Chinese Communist Party, and Islamic supremacists intent on Christianity’s eradication.  Yet God’s smugglers have persevered.

For decades, two Finnish men named Antti and Esko smuggled Bibles into the Soviet Union and throughout the Eastern Bloc.  They moved through Finnish forests in the dead of night, hid Bibles in secret compartments within their vehicles’ gas tanks, and eventually began manufacturing prefabricated housing components that allowed them to move tens of thousands of Bibles through Leningrad, Moscow, Tula, Oryol, Kiev, Kishinev, Romania, and Bulgaria.  They survived many security checks and many “impossible situations,” and several of their collaborators were imprisoned.  Through all those years of danger, though, Antti and Esko found strength through Scripture: The Lord will protect your going and your coming, now and forevermore.

In an ongoing operation today, there are Christians printing and smuggling Bibles into Middle Eastern countries that torture followers of Jesus Christ.  “[T]hey tried to kill me five times,” one smuggler recounted, who shared the story of a Believer so thankful for their covert operations that the man embraced his new Bible as the “most important book on Earth.”  A supporter of these perilous missions takes inspiration from the Book of Joshua: Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Perhaps the most well-known Bible smuggler was Andrew van der Bijl (known by most as Brother Andrew, he died just last year), a fearless Christian from the Netherlands who risked his life on innumerable occasions to bring light into the darkness of totalitarian regimes.  As he operated a kind of Christian spy ring with clandestine missions to deliver God’s Word, he developed a prayer: “Lord, in my luggage I have Scripture I want to take to your children.  When you were on earth, You made blind eyes see.  Now, I pray, make seeing eyes blind.  Do not let the guards see those things You do not want them to see.”

That prayer saw him through nerve-racking encounters with Cold War border guards, Chinese communists, and Islamic security services.  In an operation codenamed Project Pearl, he helped coordinate the delivery of a million Bibles for a Chinese Christian woman known as Mama Kwang and her small team of rebels to unload from a barge off the Southern coast in a single night.  That “night of miracles” forty years ago has been credited with the explosion of Christian fellowship in China today.

As Brother Andrew was fond of noting, “The Bible is full of ordinary people who went to impossible places and did wondrous things simply because they decided to follow Jesus.”  Inspiring others with his courage, he “was always on the hunt for new rebels and radicals willing to go to the darkest places on earth, at the risk of death, to change the world.”

You do not have to become an international spy in order to be one of Brother Andrew’s “rebels and radicals” for Christ.  God blessed us each with special talents, and with these talents, we each have special obligations.  It is up to each one of us to do what we can when we can with steadfast determination.  Rebelling against the evils of this world requires no additional invitation.

Among his many sermons on the importance of sacrifice and hard work, English greengrocer and lay preacher Alfred Roberts attested: “There is no promise of ease for the faithful servant of the Cross, and there is no bypass round Calvary.  You will have to be a man of humble heart and paradoxically also a man of authority.  God wants no faint hearts for his ambassadors.  He wants man, who having communed with heaven, can never be intimidated by the world.”

That’s invaluable advice.  No matter how small we may feel, when we act with God in our hearts, we have nothing to fear.  We become the rock around which those with no resolve must move.  Roberts knew that humanity’s salvation depends on humanity’s character and, therefore, he spent a great deal of time forging in others indestructible souls filled with virtue, tenacity, and perseverance.  By many measures, he was successful, but he is remembered most for the moral strength of his daughter — known all over the world simply as the Iron Lady.

You never know when your seemingly mundane words or actions might light a flame of courage in someone else.  You do not know how your good example might affect another’s future.  So speak bravely and live your life as if curious eyes are constantly watching.  Be a person of both gentleness and authority.  Be one of God’s valiant ambassadors.  Be fearless, while others quiver.  Be rebellious against injustice and defiant against evil.  And remember this: no matter what tyrant rises or what iniquity spreads, God’s faithful children have nothing to dread.

Merry Christmas, friends.
