Against American Mobocracy

Today, much as in the antebellum years, the threat of mob rule dangles over the republic like a sword of Damocles.

In his 1838 Lyceum Address in Springfield, Illinois, a 28-year-old Abraham Lincoln spoke on “the perpetuation of our political institutions.” The speech was eerily prescient, coming 23 years as it did before then-President Lincoln presided over a nation tragically brought into a grisly Civil War—the ultimate test of that “perpetuation”—by the assault on Fort Sumter.

But Lincoln’s Lyceum Address was not merely prescient insofar as Fort Sumter was concerned. Indeed, much of the speech, with its emphasis on the perils of mobocracy, reads as if it could have been delivered yesterday. As Democratic activists today, much like their 19th-century predecessors, yet again resort to thuggish appeals to mob force, it is incumbent upon the GOP—the “Party of Lincoln”—to heed and utilize its spiritual founder’s lasting wisdom.

In Springfield, Lincoln warned that “the innocent, those who have ever set their faces against violations of law in every shape, alike with the guilty, fall victims to the ravages of mob law.” Then, carefully connecting rule by mob with declining civic efficacy and democracy itself, Lincoln added: “By the operation of this mobocratic spirit, which all must admit, is now abroad in the land, the strongest bulwark of any Government, and particularly of those constituted like ours, may effectually be broken down and destroyed—I mean the attachment of the People.”

Finally, toward the end of his speech, after establishing the dangers of mobocracy, Lincoln made his appeal: “There is no grievance that is a fit object of redress by mob law. In any case that arises, as for instance, the promulgation of abolitionism, one of two positions is necessarily true; that is, the thing is right within itself, and therefore deserves the protection of all law and all good citizens; or, it is wrong, and therefore proper to be prohibited by legal enactments; and in neither case, is the interposition of mob law, either necessary, justifiable, or excusable.”

The overarching backdrop of Lincoln’s Lyceum Address was, of course, that most fraught issue that dominated so much of antebellum American politics: slavery. But his advice, and his appeal, are timeless. In fact, that advice has never been more apropos than it is today. For today, much as back then, the threat of mob rule dangles over the republic like a sword of Damocles. And today, much as back then, that threat emanates from a similar partisan tribe: the Democratic Party. True to Alinskyite form and consistent with their riotous 1960s-era campus activist forebears, today’s Democrats routinely threaten the republic with mob rule if they do not get their way.

In the lead-up to Inauguration Day 2017 and on Inauguration Day itself, leftist activists across the country blocked traffic, smashed windows, looted stores, and set cars ablaze; in Washington, D.C. alone, 217 people were arrested and six police officers were injured. On October 6, 2018, the day that Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in as a Supreme Court justice, leftist activists, intoxicated by a smear campaign of fabricated sexual assault charges against the esteemed jurist, physically banged on the Court’s doors in a ham-fisted attempt to disrupt the proceedings. In the post-George Floyd “summer of love” of 2020, Black Lives Matter and Antifa hooligans ravaged American urban corridors with a zealous “mobocratic spirit,” racking up a combined arson, vandalism and looting bill of over $1 billion in paid insurance claims.

On April 20, 2021, the nation waited with bated breath to see if Derek Chauvin, the disgraced Minneapolis cop, would be found guilty of the murder of George Floyd. He was, and deservedly so—but one still wonders how tainted the verdict was, given not merely Joe Biden’s wildly inappropriate pre-verdict commentary on Chauvin’s guilt but also the predictable assembly of frothing leftist mobs in Minnesota yet again ready to riot and set cities ablaze at a moment’s notice if the verdict did not redound to their liking. Chauvin deserved his verdict, the “ravages of mob law” still reigned.

Most recently, leftist “protestors” have taken to picketing, demonstrating and shouting crass obscenities outside the Supreme Court and the conservative justices’ personal homes—a naked example of the most sordid form of raw power politics imaginable, intended to intimidate a swing justice to defect from Justice Samuel Alito’s leaked majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, this Court term’s marquee abortion case. Thus far, Attorney General Merrick Garland has called these prototypical mobocratic displays “unacceptable” and “dangerous” but he thus far eschewed pressing charges under 18 U.S. Code Section 1507, a federal statute that clearly proscribes this grotesque conduct.

Conservative churches across the country have seen Marxist, pro-abortion demonstrators halt services, all in a bizarre attempt to better salvage the Left’s foremost pagan sacrament: abortion. And in what looks an awful lot like an act of arson, an anti-abortion center in Madison, Wisconsin, mysteriously burned down shortly after the Dobbs leak, around the same time vile graffiti was found on the premises reading, “If abortions aren’t safe than you aren’t either.”

The U.S. Capitol riot of January 6, 2021—and specifically, those who breached the Capitol itself—was universally condemned by all Republican officeholders. But not so much the Black Lives Matter/antifa/neo-Marxist shock troops, who riot, burn and rage with nods and winks of approval from their Democratic Party elders in power. And even when those elders purport to condemn the anarchy, they do so because there is actually more they could  be doing—see, for example, Attorney General Garland.

Fortunately for Republicans, Biden now boasts among the lowest approval ratings in modern American political history. He is catastrophically unpopular, and Republicans stand on the precipice of possibly picking up the most congressional seats that a party has picked up in any midterm election in decades. If they wish to lock in those gains and best appeal to moderates, independents and swing voters, Republicans could do a lot worse than to go back to their Lincolnian roots and run a sustained summer/fall campaign dedicated to the very simple and intuitive proposition that “there is no grievance that is a fit object of redress by mob law.”

1 more day until the NCIS LA season finale! Here's tonight's news:

I’m Calling Bullshit

Let’s call bullshit on the idea that our societal,
slow-motion suicide is preordained. It isn’t. Fight back.

If you come from the more rural parts of this great country, you probably know what calling bullshit is.

When the fish story just gets to be too much or the past high school athletic feats of your fat beer drinking friend go over the top, you call bullshit.

It’s a friendly way to publicly say, “I don’t believe you. So, either step to the plate and prove it or STFU and abandon your tall tale.”

The country, but especially the Left, needs a hearty round of bullshit calling to put an end to some of the insanity which far too many consider settled facts.

This list is far from inclusive so please feel free to add your own candidates for bullshit calling.

I call bullshit that the abstractions of the Left are real, physical things. They take the features of an individual—the only true physical realities of life—and mentally create groups they then imbue with emotions, motivations, and even agency. Bullshit. There are no such thing as blacks, whites, gays, Republicans, Democrats, etc. There are only individuals. Stop talking as though these groups exist and act and behave as though they are a single, living entity. They aren’t.

I call bullshit on the entire trans movement. As a scientific fact there is no such thing as transgendered people. Sure, there are people who feel something very strongly and interpret this—often with a lot of “help” from outside sources—as proof of their being one sex trapped in another, but that doesn’t make it so. At one time, mental health issues were treated, not encouraged. Stop talking about transsexual people and their “rights.” This only leads to stupidity like men competing in women’s sports, menstrual products in high school boy’s bathrooms, and not even being able to determine who is a male or female.

I call bullshit on the idea a doctor at birth “assigns” a sex to a newborn. Sex is solely determined by which individual sperm—X or Y—closes the deal. Nothing more, nothing less.

As a subset of this, I call bullshit on the entire gender fluidity movement. I don’t really give a damn who or what you choose to copulate with but just because you’ll take any port in a storm—or think you poop rainbows and unicorns—doesn’t make this a physical reality. My pronoun is Stop-being-an-idiot.

I call bullshit on the panic over white supremacy. The entire white supremacy movement probably numbers in the hundreds. The country was not built on it, nor does it influence much of anything. At its core, the Left’s propaganda surrounding white supremacy is really just a more socially acceptable way to push the disgusting concept of minority inferiority—especially black inferiority.

I call bullshit on leftist economics. As Friedrich Hayek rightly noted, “If socialists understood economics they wouldn’t be socialists.” Government doesn’t create wealth, it consumes it. Printing more and more money doesn’t create wealth, it destroys it: see today’s inflation. No nation has ever taxed its way to prosperity. Small, limited government designed to protect individual freedom is what our founders knew and established, and the only viable design for any society that hopes to be long-lived.

I call bullshit on the idea our political representatives are our “leaders.” Many of the problems this country faces have their roots in the transformation of elected and unelected officials from representatives of the people to leaders of the people. Does this severely limit what these representatives can and should do? Yes, that’s the goal. Stop talking and acting as though these folks are our leaders. Most couldn’t lead their way out of a wet paper bag.

I call bullshit on the idea that passing more laws will somehow magically affect criminals’ behavior. This is a common argument used for those who want to restrict and then erase our Second Amendment rights. It is estimated there are over 400 million guns and trillions of rounds of ammunition in the United States. If law-abiding armed citizens were the problem, you’d know it.

I call bullshit on the idea—prevalent in many leftist circles—that our wishes and desires can somehow magically change reality. We are a natural part of this world and nothing we can build, nothing we can do, can operate outside of this reality. Advances in the human experience have come from our discovering reality, not defining it. You aren’t a little god. Quit talking and acting as though you are.

I call bullshit on the idea that a top-down, hierarchical structure generates superior results. Due to the incredible multiplicative power of swarm intelligence and the self-organization it drives, free individuals will always generate far superior results. The “IQ” of a group of free individuals exceeds that of a top-down design by orders of magnitude. Bosses are neither desired nor required. Bosses just increase the odds of catastrophic failure. This reality has profound implications in the design and operations of government.

I call bullshit on the idea that “government” is a real, physical thing. Government at whatever level is simply a powerful, non-profit organization. “It” doesn’t do anything since “it” doesn’t exist. Stop speaking and acting as though it does. And those who staff it are no smarter and have more wisdom than you or I. In fact, if you look at college entrance exams and class standing of government versus non-government employees, most government employees are merely average or, sometimes, below average.

I call bullshit on the idea that government is required to address whatever ills face society. The reality is just the opposite.

I call bullshit on the idea that government and government schools should run our public k-12 education systems. Government schools have been failing this country for at least 60 years. And if they were truly doing their job, my bullshit list would shrink considerably.

Let’s start loudly calling bullshit each and every time we hear it and end this insanity before the greatest country the world has ever seen disappears into the ash heap of history. As a free people we don’t have to allow this. Let’s call bullshit on the idea that our societal, slow-motion suicide is preordained. It isn’t. Fight back.

Hillary Clinton's Campaign Manager Testifies That She 'Agreed With' Leaking False Alfa Bank Story to Reporter

Bonchie reporting for RedState

John Durham’s prosecution of Michael Sussmann continues apace, and there have already been some noteworthy revelations from the trial.

On Friday, Robby Mook testified and confirmed what many people have suspected for years. Namely, that Hillary Clinton was not an innocent bystander in her campaign’s attempt to spread fake information about Donald Trump and Russia. While Clinton and her lackeys have long tried to present her as above the fray, Mook admitted that the twice-failed presidential candidate signed off on the dissemination of the false Alfa Bank story.

Fox News provides this write-up.

He also said he discussed whether to give the information to a reporter with senior campaign officials, including campaign chairman John Podesta, senior policy advisor, now White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, and communications director Jennifer Palmieri.

“I discussed it with Hillary as well,” Mook said.

“I don’t remember the substance of the conversation, but notionally, the discussion was, hey, we have this and we want to share it with a reporter,” Mook said.

“She agreed with that,” Mook testified, directly linking Clinton to the Alfa Bank story for what I believe is the first time. While she had spread the story during the 2016 election, including on social media, she did so while pretending she had gotten the news from the media and not her campaign. We now know that framing was a lie.

Past that, ascertaining how that relates to the Alfa Bank story also being brought to the FBI is a question left to be answered, and one I’m sure Durham will be more than happy to drill down on as the trial moves forward. It seems improbable that Clinton wouldn’t have been part of that decision-making process as well. Remember, this is a woman who always believes she’s the smartest person in the room, and she’s a notorious control freak. If she approved the story going to the media, you can bet she knew about it being brought to the FBI.

What this all adds up to is a conspiracy to influence the election with false information (probably not criminal) as well as a conspiracy to push false information to the FBI and DOJ (which is almost certainly criminal). Sussmann is the current fall guy, but he clearly didn’t act alone, and I think Durham will prove that. If he secures a conviction regarding this case, there are several more people in line that were part of the conspiracy, including Clinton herself. Sussmann is the first shoe to drop because he’s the closest link to the FBI. Now, you can expect Durham to start working backward.

Still, I’m skeptical Clinton is ever touched simply because Washington elites are never touched. Here’s to being pleasantly surprised.

'Grave Sin': Nancy Pelosi Barred from Receiving Communion Over Abortion Stance

Catechism of the Catholic Church:"2272: Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life....Rather, she [the Church] makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society."

Article by Spencer Brown in Townhall

'Grave Sin': Nancy Pelosi Barred from Receiving Communion Over Abortion Stance

The San Francisco Archbishop in Nancy Pelosi's home district has barred the Speaker of the House from receiving communion in light of her pro-abortion stance — one that was reflected in her work to pass the falsely named "Women's Health Protection Act" that would have expanded a concocted "right" to abortion far beyond what Roe allowed and what a majority of Americans support.

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone made the announcement of the decision on Friday in a written message to Speaker Pelosi that has since been published on the San Francisco Archdiocese's website. It's pretty clear what the Catholic Church believes regarding life and when it begins and the "grave sin" Pelosi is committing with her public support for abortion which she justifies through her proclaimed Catholic faith [emphasis mine]:

The Second Vatican Council, in its decree on the Church in the Modern World, Guadium et spes, reiterated the Church's ancient and consistent teaching that "from the first moment of conception life must be guarded with the greatest care while abortion and infanticide are unspeakable cirmes" (n. 51) Christians have, indeed, alwaus upheld the dignity of human life in every stage, especially the most vulnerable, beginning with life in the womb. His Holiness, Pope Francis, in keeping with his predecessors, has likewise been quite clear and emphatic in teaching on the dignity of human life in the womb.

This fundamental moral truth has consequences for Catholics in how they live their lives, especially those entrusted with promoting and protecting the public good of society. Pope St. John Paul II was also quite consistent in upholding this constant teaching of the Church, and frequently reminded us that "those who are directly involved in lawmaking bodies have a 'grave and clear obligation to oppose' any law that attacks human life. For them, as for every Catholic, it is impossible to promote such laws or to vote for them" (cf. Doctrinal Note on some questions regarding the participation of Catholics in political life [November 24, 2002], n. 4, §1). A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others. Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons "are not to be admitted to Holy Communion" (Code of Canon Law, can. 915).

With regard to the application of these principles to Catholics in political life, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, wrote to the U.S. bishops in 2004 explaining the approach to be taken:

... when a person's formal cooperation becomes manifest (understood, in the case of a Catholic politician, as his consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws), his Pastor should meet with him about the Church's teaching, informing him that he is not to present himself for Holy Communion until he brings to an end the objective situation of sin, and warning him that he will otherwise be denied the Eucharist. When 'these precautionary measures have not had their effect...,' and the person in question, with obstinate persistence, still presents himself to receive the Holy Eucharist, 'the minister of Holy Communion must refuse to distribute it.'

In striving to follow this direction, I am grateful to you for the time you have given me in the past to speak about these matters. Unfortunately, I have not received such an accommodation to my many requests to speak with you again since you vowed to codify the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision in federal law following upon passage of Texas Senate Bill 8 last September. That is why I communicated my concerns to you via letter on April 7, 2022, and informed you there that, should you not publicly repudiate your advocacy for abortion "rights" or else refrain from referring to your Catholic faith in public and receiving Holy Communion, I would have no choice but to make a declaration, in keeping with canon 915, that you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.

As you have not publiclly repudiated your position on abortion, and continue to refer to your Catholic faith in justifying your position and to receive Holy Communion, that time has now come. Therefore, in light of my responsibility as the Archbishop of San Francisco to be "concerned for all the Christian faithful entrusted to [my] care" (Code of Canon Law, can. 383 §1), by means of this communication I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publically repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.

Please know that I stand ready to continue our conversation at any time, and will continue to offer up prayer and fasting for you.

I also ask all of the faithful of the Archdiocese of San Francisco to pray for all of our legislators, especially Catholic legislators who promote procured abortion, that with the help and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they may undergo a conversion of heart in this most grave matter and human life may be protected and fostered in every stage and condition of life.

In March of this year, Pelosi said in public remarks about abortion that "[t]his really gets me burned up in case you didn't notice because again I'm very Catholic, devout, practicing, all of that. They would like to throw me out," she said, "but I'm not going because I don't want to make their day."

Well, now that day has apparently come, at least insofar as it applies to Pelosi's ability to receive Holy Communion while at home in San Francisco. As the letter from the Archbishop outlines, the Church in her home district has apparently tried to meet with her about her stance on abortion — again one that is far outside of Catholic teaching, what Roe v. Wade allowed, and even what a majority of Americans support.

Last May, Archbishop Cordileone warned that prominent Catholics who continue to support abortion — and even worse use their Catholic faith to justify their stance — ought to be denied Holy Communion. "This is a bitter medicine," Cordileone said of denying Catholics the Sacrament, "but the gravity of the evil of abortion can sometimes warrant it."

The only way is up for French relations after Le Drian takes final swipe at Morrison

France’s outgoing foreign minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, has taken a swipe at Scott Morrison just hours after the Australian prime minister conceded defeat, saying the Coalition’s election loss “suits me fine”.

The veteran politician, who is leaving his post after five years, showed that nerves are still raw between the two administrations following the controversial termination of a $90 billion submarine contract.

rench officials expressed fury over Morrison’s decision to leak a private text message from President Emmanuel Macron after the submarine contract was axed in favour of a new deal negotiated in secret with the US and Britain.

The alliance, known as AUKUS, granted Australia the technology to build nuclear-powered submarines in what was widely viewed as a new effort to counter China’s influence in the contested South China Sea.

France was outraged that it was only informed of the alliance hours before the public announcement was made.

“I can’t stop myself from saying that the defeat of Morrison suits me fine,” Le Drian told reporters on Sunday morning AEST, as he handed over to his successor Catherine Colonna.

“The actions taken at the moment when they were taken were of such brutality and cynicism and I would even be tempted to say of unequivocal incompetence.

“I hope we can resume frank and constructive dialogue with Australia in the future.”

Le Drian and the French ambassador to Canberra both described the submarine decision as a “stab in the back”, saying breaking the deal would hurt French business and shut the country’s military out of a key initiative as Western countries sought to build a bulwark against China.

Macron said at the Glasgow climate summit that Morrison had lied to him.

France recalled its ambassadors to the US and Australia for consultations as part of a protest against the security deal – a move Le Drian at the time said was justified by the situation’s “exceptional gravity”.

It will now be up to career diplomat Catherine Colonna, who replaces Le Drian, to help reset the relationship with her counterpart, Labor’s Penny Wong.

Until last week, Colonna served as the French ambassador to the UK and was at the heart of managing difficult post-Brexit relations between London and Paris. Last year she was summoned by British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss to explain French threats to increase border checks during a dispute over fishing licences.

The AUKUS pact was strongly supported by incoming Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese in opposition.

However, Albanese last week accused Morrison of breaking trust with the Biden administration by not briefing Labor well before the announcement.

This masthead revealed that senior members of the Biden administration had insisted four months before the announcement that it would only consider pursuing the project if it had solid support from both major Australian political parties.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson referenced the importance of the pact in a statement congratulating Albanese on federal Labor’s election result on Saturday evening.

“Our countries have a long history and a bright future together. As thriving like-minded democracies we work every day to make the world a better, safer, greener and more prosperous place,” he said.

“As we reap the rewards of our comprehensive free trade agreement, the AUKUS partnership and the unmatched closeness between the British and Australian people, we do so knowing that the only distance between us is geographical.”

Johnson said he looked forward to working with Albanese in the “weeks, months and years ahead” as the two nations tackled shared challenges and demonstrated the importance of shared values.

Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan Outlines Details of Biden Administration Actions to Block U.S. Oil Production

During a Senate Energy Committee hearing, Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan gives a list of actions taken by the Biden administration in the past three weeks to block U.S. oil production.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm stated during the hearing that the Biden administration was doing everything possible to increase oil production and supply in the United States.  Senator Sullivan quotes the actions of the Biden administration in the last three weeks which are exactly the opposite of the energy secretary claims.  WATCH (3 minutes):

This is, yet again, another example of the false pretense of the Biden administration {GO DEEP}.  The Interior Department is filled with radical climate change ideologues, and they are working earnestly to undermine U.S. energy policy.

The hypocrisies pointed out by Senator Sullivan are not hypocrisies, they are fraud.   The activist ideologues embedded within the bureaucracy of government are like terror cells activating to destroy the foundation of the country.   President Obama implanted them at all levels of the executive branch offices. They are self-aware and operating independently.  The example of the Interior Department, in charge of oil and gas development, is the easiest to see.

A Woman Fulfills Her Dream of Opening a Restaurant, and Makes History in the Process

Article by Jennifer Oliver O'Connell in RedState

A Woman Fulfills Her Dream of Opening a Restaurant, and Makes History in the Process

Teasha Watkins has lived in Pearisburg her entire life and has been cooking for that long too.

“I have been cooking forever,” Watkins said.

Watkins dreamed for a long time of having her own restaurant. In May, she opened Silver & Salt, a down home, stick-to-your ribs restaurant for the community of Giles County. A community that Watkins told local WSLS News that she absolutely loves.

From the Silver & Salt website:

My name is Teasha Watkins I grew up here in Giles. Always loved my hometown and I want to give back to my community with some good home cooking. Hope to see you all soon.

And Watkins did!

WSLS brought their news cameras, and the mayor came out to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“At the ribbon-cutting, it was so nice when the mayor Robert was here, and I was like dang, we are all here for this purpose,” Watkins said.

Co-owner and manager Will White said it’s an exciting milestone.

“It’s mind-blowing,” White said. “It’s just good for the community to be getting some Black cooking.”

Watkins said the customers have shown up to support one of their own.

“Everyone here is good. Everyone has a good heart. Anytime I have ever needed something, all you have to do is post on Facebook and everyone is willing to help. Like no matter what. That’s just the way it is. It’s like a big family,” Watkins said.

What I love about Watkins story and why it is a Feel-Good Friday tale, is that she is simply pursuing her dreams and desiring to give back to her community. Just like Lucy Westlake, Watkins is being who she is and doing what she loves. And Watkins managed to discover a way to pour that love of food into the community that also poured into her.

I know that some of our readers don’t give much credence to “firsts,” and feel as though it is part of the Leftist indoctrination and agenda.

Trust me, it is not, and I think these milestones by women, men, Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, whoever, should always be recognized and heralded. Not to prove any agenda, but to encourage and inspire those around us and the next generation.

Watkins herself was surprised to discover that in pursuing her dream and her passion, she accomplished a cultural milestone as the first Black restaurant owner in the County of Giles and the community of Pearisburg.

“I would be the first Black-owned restaurant ever to be in Giles, which is wild,” Watkins said. “There’s really not been any ever. I was like ‘Dang, I’m 36 and I’m the first. I like that.’”

Watkins proves that the people who truly achieve these milestones are the ones simply pursuing excellence. So, despite how the Left has lowered the bar on these standards, continually seeking excellence and seeking to give it a spotlight will ultimately flip the script. Like Westlake, Watkins desires to inspire a generation.

“You can do whatever you want, for real,” Watkins said. “Just do it. Whatever is in your mind, go for it. Because someone is going to support you.”

C.S. Lewis said,

“You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.”

Teasha Watkins took that to heart, and hopes others do as well.

If you’re in that neck of Virginia, Silver & Salt is a great place to go grab a bite. Their food looks delicious.

Find out more about this dream, this milestone, and this first of its kind on Silver & Salt’s Facebook page or website.

A Remedial Lesson on a Republic Versus Democracy in This Era of Revisionist History

posted by Brad Slager at RedState

In the face of so many employing the term, we need to readdress how this country is not a democracy.

Over the past few years, it has become more than fashionable for Democrats and those in the media to cling tightly to the concept of preserving our “democracy.” It has become an almost knee-jerk invocation when any party-based issue is presented; something either needs to be done, or needs to be blocked, due to “a threat to our democracy.”

This line of arguing became turbocharged following the riot at the Capitol, but it had been in place for a time prior. The Washington Post adopted the catch-phrase, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” back in 2017, as a response to Donald Trump being sworn into office (and it continues this very week, as Margaret Sullivan rested upon this tired concept.) Trump’s ascendancy was the flashpoint for many on the left to begin not only using the protection of democracy as a mantra but to begin calling for needed changes in our government due to the inability to preserve our way of governing.

Look at the calls to rescind the Electoral College. It has been deemed unfair that anyone could reach the White House while being technically outvoted. The numerous ironies begin here, as the response to seeing Trump ascend to the presidency as a populist leads to a call that we rely on the popular vote. The EC, goes the argument, is an outmoded model from the Colonial days and has no practical application today. Those Founders were fine in spirit back in the day, but they really were not sure what they were doing, goes the argument.

This line of thinking is also applied to the call to repeal the filibuster in the Senate. It is, again, called “unfair” that the Democrats’ agenda items can be stalled out because they cannot achieve a majority on policies, but this argument has to ignore realities. The Senate currently is actually an even split; there is no minority party. Additionally, this centuries-old practice has never been deemed such a problem before Joe Biden’s arrival.

Look at the arguments being made against the filibuster – it is antiquated, unfair, unconstitutional, anti-democratic, and racist (somehow). But remember, the Democrats LOVED the filibuster all the way up to 2020. That year, their party used that Senatorial tool a record number of times. Then, in a matter of months, it instantly became a practice that needed elimination.

This line of thinking also extends to the Senate body in its entirety. Because of the inherent frustration of a divided chamber more voices are coming forward calling to restructure that limb of our government. It is not fair that small lower-populated states have an equal voice in votes. It is hard to imagine what is larger in these talks, the ignorance or the short-sightedness because those forming these ignorant arguments fail to contemplate that their restructured government will someday be in the hands of the other party.

It’s obvious why they are desperate in calling for these measures. The Democrats feel as if they are on the cusp of a wholesale mandate and can push through their agenda, while facing an expiration date. They are aware in the coming months that change is arriving, given the upcoming mid-terms represent the historical opposition party pendulum swing — although polls indicate it may be more like “The Pit and the Pendulum” swing. As a result, there is this reliance on a claimed need to save our democracy.

Now let us step back for a moment and look at this picture. The very same voices supposedly concerned about the integrity of our nation and maintaining the sanctity of our government are at the same time calling for a complete overhaul of our governmental structure. How can one intellectually argue that we need to preserve our institutions by rescinding a centuries-old practice, expunging a core concept in the Constitution, and raze one of our arms of government?! It is an undiluted emotional reaction and it is rooted in the ignorance that we are supposedly a democratic nation.

Many of us have seen the argument made on social media that we are not a democracy but a representative republic. While this may sound trite, it is wholly accurate. Those pushing for change face this with some form of a “Yeah, but…” rebuttal, trying to suggest that the federalist construct is simply a modification of democracy, and that quaint arrangement is outmoded today. We need to revert back to democratic intentions. This is where their ignorance is on full display because the Founders did not accidentally drift from democracy, nor did they attempt to reform it with a new version of governance – they intentionally sought to avoid a democratic-run nation.

The first evidence I’ll use to get their attention comes from the Broadway star, Alexander Hamilton. At the Constitutional Convention, he gave voice to the position of many of the Founders that the direct intent was to be a republic, for the purpose of not wanting to fall prey to the pitfalls that a true democracy would deliver.

We are now forming a Republican form of government. Real liberty is not found in the extremes of democracy, but in moderate governments. If we incline too much to democracy we shall soon shoot into a monarchy, or some other form of dictatorship.

Consider this potential popular vote scenario. Californians propose some kind of daft environmental policy that needs to be followed on a national level. People in Democratic urban centers, not well-versed on agrarian realities, go along with the party idea. Those states with excessive farmlands and fewer people see the problems this policy will have on farming, but they become outvoted in a democratic alignment. As a result, the popular will can start to affect the national food supply. This is why an equally-weighted Senate is a needed check on such scenarios.

Thomas Jefferson focused on this type of issue in his inaugural address in 1801.

The will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect and to violate would be oppression.”

In the Federalist Papers No. 10, James Madison had this very thought as well, prior to ratification of the Constitution.

Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.

It did not take long for Madison to be shown correct. As a point of direct comparison, France went through its own revolution near the same time as that of our country. In its adherence to pure democratic rule, that country went through at least a dozen changes in its governance structure, including three monarchies in that time. All the while, the United States has maintained the same government for centuries.

The modulation of a representative republic has maintained that order. The Founders did not stumble across an archaic point of order; it was an intentional framework to prevent imbalanced governance and provide equal voices. The Senate is by design a check on the rule of the majority. The will of the people is heard in the House, but the Senate is the voice of the republic, and that is the braking system if the masses want to exert control.

What those complaining today are actually saying is they are mad that they cannot push their will on the country. They want to force an issue rather than sway the collective minds, and they are angry that the Founders anticipated this type of effort. As a result, today we have numerous voices inaccurately calling to preserve our democracy, and their solution to that involves stripping down the frames that have been in place for centuries.

It is notable that in making this rash and monumental call for renovating our core principles, they are calling their opponents the extremists.

Disney Releases LGBTQ Pride-Themed Toys Marketed to Children

Disney Releases LGBTQ Pride-Themed Toys Marketed to Children

Amid pushback from parents and Republican leaders, Disney has launched a “Pride Collection” initiative, which includes an LGBTQ pride-themed line of plush toys marketed to young children.

Among the plush toys from Disney, which were made in conjunction with the squish mallow company, are various Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Stitch, all of which feature a rainbow design.

The back of the tag reads, “in celebration of Pride and the company’s Pride collection, The Walt Disney Company is giving funds as part of our ongoing commitment to organizations around the world that support LGBTQ+ communities.” The front of the tag notes that the plush toy is intended for children “0+.”

The release of the pride-themed plush toys is only one facet of the company’s campaign to push leftwing gender theory on children. As Breitbart News reported, the multinational corporation has launched their “Pride Collection,” complete with a clothing line with the rainbow overlaid on the logos of Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar.

Disney is donating the profits from their pride collection to a number of different LGBTQ organizations from across the world, including LGBTQ centers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Orange County, GLSEN, PFLAG International, and other organizations in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the U.K, Latin America, and Japan. Several of the organization’s have a specific focus on youth who identify as LGBTQ.

This development occurs as the corporation has pledged to continue fighting Florida’s HB 1557, which the company and various Democrat politicians have erroneously referred to as the “don’t say gay” bill and which outlaws the teaching of leftwing gender ideology to school children from kindergarten to third grade.

The company has faced severe pushback to their woke agenda, with parents marching on Disney and Florida Governor Ron Desantis rescinding the multinational’s self-governing status in Orlando.

The Latest Plummet in Biden's Approval Comes From Within His Own Party

Brandon Morse reporting for RedState

One of the reasons behind an upcoming red wave sweep in the midterms can be described by an old adage from Ronald Reagan.

“I didn’t leave the party, the party left me,” said The Gipper.

It was a sentiment shared by many a Democrat voter at the time who felt their former party had abandoned them in favor of more and more leftism. It was a sentiment that would overwhelmingly sweep the former actor into high office.

It seems we’re seeing history repeat itself. President Joe Biden’s popularity is falling drastically and there are no signs of it stopping. To be sure, he and the Democrats brought this on with repeated failures on everything from foreign policy to the economic health of the nation. The Democrat Party would rather embrace extremist solutions and positions than take common-sense steps to improve the nation.

These positions are so bad that Biden’s recent drop in the polls is helped along quite a bit from within his own party according to Fox News:

The poll, published by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public research, shows that only 39% of adults in the United States approve of Biden’s performance as president.

Overall, only about 2 in 10 adults say the U.S. is heading in the right direction or the economy is good, both down from about 3 in 10 a month earlier. Those drops were concentrated among Democrats, with just 33% within the president’s party saying the country is headed in the right direction, down from 49% in April.

Biden’s overall approval among Democrats sits at 73% which represents a drop from 82% in the same poll last year. Biden never dropped below 82% approval among Democrats in 2021.

Last year, this approval rating was at 63 percent, meaning he’s experienced a 24 percent drop in approval over a very short amount of time.

Fox News reported this isn’t the only drop either. When it comes to his decisions on the economy, only a small minority believe he’s actually done anything good, and that too is a sinking number:

Additionally, only 18% of Americans say that Biden’s policies have helped more than they have hurt the economy, which is down from 24% in March. Meanwhile, 51% of Americans say his policies have hurt more than they have helped with 30% saying he hasn’t made a difference one way or the other.

This poll comes on the heels of another showing that Biden’s support is decreasing among the Hispanic community.

The current main figure of the Democrat Party is drowning and taking his colleagues with him. Midterms look to be an unmitigated disaster for Democrats despite doing everything to try to stop the bleeding except the right things.
