THE CANADA - USA TRUCK TRADE DISPUTE

Truck Building is Canada USA and it's Global !

Canada manufactures complete medium- and heavy-duty truck chassis and vehicles, rather than just isolated components. Major facilities produce finished units for highway use, including vocational, transit, and freight applications.

Key production hubs include:

  • HINO (Woodstock, Ontario): Assembles medium and heavy-duty vehicles for the North American market.
  • PACCAR (Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec): Manufactures medium-duty trucks (including Kenworth and Peterbilt models) and heavy-duty vehicle components.
  • General Motors (Oshawa, Ontario): Produces heavy-duty pickup trucks (Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra) alongside light-duty models.

These facilities handle the full assembly of truck cabs, chassis, and complete vehicles, supported by a domestic supply chain for engines, batteries, and specialized upfits for mining, municipal, and commercial use.

Hino Motors Canada Ltd. owns and operates the Woodstock Assembly Plant in Woodstock, Ontario. This facility is dedicated to the assembly of medium and heavy-duty commercial trucks specifically tailored for the Canadian market.

It’s a subsidiary of Archion, a holding company formed by the merger of Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso. This integration was finalized in 2026, with Toyota Motor Corporation and Daimler Truck each owning a 25% stake in the newly listed holding company.

Prior to this merger, Hino was a majority-owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation since 2001. The transition to Archion was established to combine the commercial vehicle operations of Toyota and Daimler Truck on an equal footing.

Hino Motors, Ltd., a Japanese company and subsidiary of the Toyota Group, manufactures trucks in multiple countries globally. While Canada has an assembly plant in Woodstock, Ontario, Hino produces vehicles in the following key locations:

  • Japan: The company’s home base features four primary plants in Hino, Hamura, Nitta (Gunma), and Koga (Ibaraki), which handle medium, heavy, and light-duty truck production as well as engine manufacturing.
  • United States: Hino Motors Manufacturing U.S.A. assembles medium-duty Class 6 and 7 trucks at facilities in Mineral Wells and Williamstown, West Virginia, while also producing parts in Ontario, California and Marion, Arkansas.
  • Thailand: The Suvarnabhumi Plant is a major overseas facility that produces trucks and buses for the regional market.
  • Indonesia: Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI) in West Java serves as a strategic production base for the ASEAN region.
  • Other Nations: Hino also has assembly or manufacturing operations in Pakistan (via Hinopak Motors), Colombia (via HMMC), Mexico, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Russia.
