The Trump administration is about to begin the largest visa revocation process in American history, the Associated Press reported on Monday afternoon.
The report claims that the State Department will revoke up to 200,000 student and business visas for individuals who have applied for or are actively seeking asylum in the United States by targeting B1 and B2 visas issued over the last decade.
“We are coordinating with DHS to identify and revoke the nonimmigrant visas of foreigners who have come to the United States claiming to be short-term visitors, but then file for asylum to stay here permanently,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott told AP.
AP says that State Department officials have revoked approximately 175,000 visas for individuals who have committed crimes since President Donald Trump took office. The new wave of cancellations would be the largest in history.
